Overview

Mweya Safari Lodge is located deep in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda's premier big game destination. Set on a peninsula above the wide Kazinga Channel and surrounded by the Rwenzori Mountains - known as the 'Mountains of the Moon' - the wood and thatch safari-style lodge offers magnificent views from all its rooms and cottages.

Guests set off on morning and afternoon/evening game drives in open vehicles in search of a wide variety of animals - key species include buffalo, elephant, hippopotamus and lion. Moreover, many animals and a huge range of birds can be seen as you glide over the waters of the Kazinga Channel in specially equipped game viewing boats, a real highlight of the area. You can also go in search of chimpanzees in the forested Kyambura Gorge or view extinct volcano craters.

A hotel style lodge offering amazing views and a wide range of activities. Being one of the only properties within Queen Elizabeth National Park you can take advantage of both land and water game viewing activities. The boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel was one of my highlights.

Rooms

Standard Room

There are 32 Standard Rooms, each with an en suite bathroom and a balcony overlooking the lake and the paths below.

OTHER ROOMS

The 12 Deluxe Rooms have air conditioning, a bonus in what can be a humid climate.

The Honeymoon Suite is in a private corner of camp, furthest from the main lodge and next to a waterhole often frequented by elephants. It also features a romantic, king-size four-poster bed.

For a more safari-style, romantic ambience, we also suggest that honeymooners stay in one of Mweya's luxury tents with their fully equipped en suite bathrooms and lovely wooden terrace overlooking the Kazinga Channel.

The Family Cottages, Queen and Presidential Cottages offer a quality living experience. These two and three bedroom, air-conditioned cottages feature living areas, wooden floors, and spacious wooden decks with splendid views of the channel, lakes and distant mountains. Some are equipped with a small kitchenette and a dining area.

Facilities

Relax on a sun lounger next to the lodge's swimming pool, complete with magnificent panoramic views of the Kazinga Channel. Guests at Mweya can also make use of the Health Club and treat themselves to a massage, facial or can use the gym, sauna and steam room facilities.

Souvenirs and gifts for those at home can be bought at the gift shop, while the business centre provides Internet facilities and other conveniences.

Dining

Meals at Mweya Safari Lodge can be served in the formal dining room, but the views from the veranda dining area cannot be beaten. The food is a combination of international cuisine and local specialities; the barbecue and traditional dancing on Saturday nights creates a memorable evening.

Relax after a day of game viewing at the Tembo Bar and watch the sunset over Lake Edward and the Kazinga Channel from the bar’s veranda. The Poolside Bar also serves refreshments around the swimming pool.

Staying in a private cottage turned into an upgrade to the presidential cottage: nice surprise and very comfortable. Personnel very friendly and helpful. Cruise on the brand new luxury ponton boat with drinks and canapes was one of the highlights of the Uganda experience. Viewing the rich wildlife and birds from the water was unforgettable:

Lodge was excellent in all regards. The staff went out of their way to make our stay fantastic, and were also very friendly and attentive. The variety of the food and the meal choices were comparable to those found in very fine restaurants. Mweya's l ocation, overlooking the Kazinga Channel, was superb; the rooms were very comfortable.
