Okonjima Plains Camp
Set in a remote wilderness area in the Otjiwarongo region of northern Namibia and close to the superb Waterberg Plateau Park, Okonjima Plains Camp was once an old family farmhouse. Now fully converted, the thatched lodge and its rooms are scattered around rolling lawns but what Okonjima is most famous for is its big cat rehabilitation centre – The Africat Foundation. This education and research facility is dedicated to the rehabilitation of Namibia’s big cats, particularly cheetah and leopard.
Observing and learning about the conservation work done at Okonjima is an obvious highlight here but with a bird list of over 300 species, birdwatching is also a popular activity. If you want to stretch your legs, take an early morning self-guided mountain walk; the sunrises are spectacular and the San Bushman local history fascinating.

Spend time relaxing in the comfortable lounge area with an informative book from the library or a drink from the bar in the African themed, open-sided lapa. The Barn also houses the dining room that opens onto the sociable fire pit. The swimming pool is tucked away in a quiet corner of the camp and a small safari shop is also available.
Added conveniences are a laundry service – useful if you have packed lightly – and secure parking for your rental 4×4 or SUV.

Loved Okonjima!
It is a very interesting and worthwhile place to visit – thank you for persuading us to spend two nights there – I think x2 nights is about right and it was the perfect place to end our trip and in easy reach of Windhoek and the airport.
Anderssons and Okonjima were both very good – we were very lucky to see both the leopards and the cheetahs (accommodation and food first class there)
We saw many animals but the cheetahs and leopards at Okjinjima were awesome
