Porini Rhino Camp
A tented safari camp set at the bottom of the Laikipia Plateau in the foothills of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya, on a gorgeous semi permanent stream. Porini Rhino Camp is situated in the private Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a conservation area that is firmly focused on protecting the local environment. Feel a part of it all, with constant research carried out in the area.
It’s also a haven for rescued chimpanzees and is home to the Big 5. The camp adopts a philosophy of sustainable and responsible tourism, and aims to generate income for the local Maasai community. The staff and guides are outstanding. Visit the Northern white rhino enclosure, only 7 left in the world and 4 are located in the Laikapa/Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

There’s an alfresco theme when it comes to dining at Porini Rhino: you can enjoy picnic lunches out in the bush while sundowner drinks are served with a view during evening game drives, allowing you to enjoy a beautiful African sunset while out on the savannah.
The kitchen bakes fresh bread daily and dinner consists of multiple courses of high quality, locally grown produce, and served in the dining area. On warm and clear nights, dinner may be enjoyed under the stars.
The Porini Camps are all outstanding but Rhino remains the most special to me. The guides here are incredible - you can just see they love what they do! Porini you have yet another raving fan!

Rhino camp is of course the place to go if you want to see rhino. People should be aware seeing rhinos in the wild is not a done deal as they are difficult to spot and there are not to many. The search for the rhinos makes finally seen them a fantastic reward. I was fortunate enough to spot a Mama Black Rhino with her baby, in the open, a very unusual events. But the search been part of the fun should be communicated to “some people” who think going to a conservancy is like going to a zoo and expect to see the rhinos running around them after 5 minutes. The Rhino camp overall was a great experience. If i go to Kenya along with someone who has never been i will definitely add it to the plans, if it is just me as i usually have little time for vacation i will skip it and run to Mara, where i lost my mind and my heart 🙂 I have to add the best views from your tent are at Rhino camp, with this water hole in front of it. I expended several breakfast and late afternoons seating outside my tent with a nice book and a coffee with elephants and even jackals going for a drink in the water hole less than a 100m from me, fantastic.
We loved the Porini Camps. The staff at each were wonderful and very accommodating. The food was excellent. It’s hard to pick a favorite. Our sleeping arrangements were very comfortable and my daughter got along fine without a blow dryer. At the Mara we forgot to zip the tent flaps before dinner and were welcomed back at our tent by a couple of vervet monkeys ransacking the inside looking for cookies.

We thought the Porini camps (Amboseli, Lion, and Rhino) were all just as described and we were so happy with our choice. We had all the comfort we could ask for and still knew we were not harming the land and were, hopefully, doing right by the people. The Maasai guides and drivers and truly, all the staff were warm, considerate, and they had an impressive knowledge of nature. They had our days all planned out with night drives, morning drives with a picnic breakfast fit for a king, guided nature walks, and all day drives with the best safari picnic lunch.
The Porini Rhino camp was unique and they went the extra mile to provide us with a wonderful experience. Again the guides were friendly, knowledgeable and fun. We saw so much and the sunsets incredible.
