Saruni Wild
Situated in a picturesque forest at the border of the Lemek and Mara North private conservancies, this Hemingway-style tented camp is a tranquil bush retreat ideal for those yearning to reconnect with nature. The combination of just three tents, exclusive-use 4×4 access and expert Maasai guides makes for a truly memorable African safari.
The area has a thriving resident population of elephant, giraffe, buffalo as well as leopard and classic Masai Mara plains game. Game viewing in the Mara North and Lemek Conservancies rivals that of Masai Mara National Park with the bonus that you are unlikely to see any other vehicles, and night drives are permitted which could lead to encounters with elusive species such as genet and white-tailed mongoose.
Track animals and learn specialised bush skills passed down from generations of Maasai warriors. Walking safaris individually tailored to your interests and fitness level take you through the forests, springs and mountains of this pristine wilderness.
Make a Positive Impact Through TravelSaruni believes in the ethical creation of wealth. This is the way forward for Africa, and for conservation: the protection of wildlife and nature based on the distribution of income and jobs to its stakeholders. This is why they are proud to be among the founding members of Mara North Conservancy (MNC) and to be part of Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) – two leading community-run conservation organizations in Kenya, which demonstrate the vital connection between communities, conservation and wildlife, a relationship fueled by tourism. |

Saruni Wild was also extremely nice and the staff there were very gracious. Again, we were scheduled for the furthest villa (although the terrain there was much easier to walk on). Barbara suggested we move on our second night to the family unit, much closer to the main area. She was very gracious and helpful. Moses and William, our servers/caretakers, were wonderful, fun, and helpful. Our driver/guide was Chris and he was great. We saw many amazing animals on all of our game drives, both in Samburu and in Masai. We did have a private vehicle for the three days in Masai, but we didn’t have park tickets to the Masai Mara park. Chris and Barbara got a ticket for us and we had a day-long excursion into the park. The migration was nearly over, but we did see a large herd of wildebeests heading down to Tanzania.

We didn’t know what to expect of our safari. We were unsure how close we would get to the animals and even as to what we would see. On collection from the Mara airport, and within 10 minutes we were at a hippo pool watching a croc trying to get to a baby Hippo! And from there things just got better. It was way beyond our expectations. I feel we were really spoilt in Kenya as our guides were able to get us to within 2 metres of lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffe, in fact all game. And on the guides, we had two Masai guides (John and Coney) who were absolutely fantastic. They provided us with some amazing memories and were so determined and persistent in locating animals. On one night we were taken to dinner at a camp site (in the middle of the Mara) and our guides organised for the local Masai to do a Masai tribal dance for us which was quite spectacular in front of a fire.
The camp itself is perfect and we would highly recommend this type of accommodation over the larger more touristy lodges. We only had 2 other guests staying at the time we were at Saruni and it was so relaxing and the perfect way to unwind. The rooms and dining areas were perfectly furnished and themed and the scenery was beautiful. The service was fantastic and very personalised and made us feel very welcome. We would definitely return to this camp.
