Sayari Camp

By far our FAVORITE vendor. They are just SO GOOD. It's pampering, but in a very local, authentic African style. I know there are even more expensive options, but I can't think of why you would pay more.

Northern Serengeti was really beautiful. Asilia was super special – all around. The surprises were very delightful – like surprise prepared breakfast and sunset drinks while on safari. I also really like how they support local communities with selected foods that are served and how all the managers and guides were African.

Staff were all so well trained, friendly and genuinely seemed happy to have us there. They really stood out. The rooms and common gathering areas were beautiful. Their guide was the best. Excellent.

Sayari Camp was wonderful, friendly staff, great food, loved the tents. The scenery at and around the camp was stunning, we loved staying in the park and having animals right on your doorstep!

We also greatly enjoyed the Sayari lodge, we had a very good guide who is very passionate about the animals and the Serengeti, the lodge was extremely well done, the food and service were both amazing.

The only reason we spent big money at Sayari was to see the Great Migration and a river crossing and we were not disappointed. One day we found ourselves in the middle of 100-150 thousand wildebeests and we saw 4 river crossings one of which lasted for over an hour. Our guide, Godson, was probably the best guide we have ever had and the staff at Sayari was wonderful.

Sayari Camp is a great option for the Northern Serengeti both during the year and for the annual migration. The tents are large and beautiful and bathtubs face the open plains. I just sat on my veranda in the morning with a cup of coffee and watched the sunrise over the plains – amazing!

Sayari Tented Camp, was great, we seemed to arrive in the Northern Serengeti at the right time of year though, we missed a crossing but the rest of the game drives and walks were great. Many animals and we were able to get quite close to most of the wildlife. The Accommodation was very sheik. Both comfortable and luxurious. All the staff and the camp managers were Awesome. Very personable, knowledgeable and helpful. A great experience all round.

The trip was great. We loved Oliver’s, Dunia, Sayari, and Matemwe.

We loved our stay at the Sayari Lodge. From arriving at the airstrip and being greeted with drinks and delicious homemade cookies, to the warm greeting by Barbara, Joe, Maggie and others with towels to freshen up with, we knew this would be special. The “lodge” is a series of specially designed “tents”. They are canvas, 2 layers, so that windows and large sliding glass doors could be integrated, to see outside without the netting if you want. The lobby is spacious and lovely, truly a comfortable place to sit around in, my kids camped and played Monopoly there…The tents where we stayed were fabulous. A large sleeping area with comfortable king size bed, mirror, place to hang clothing etc. and then a partitioned bathroom area, separate toilet area, large shower room with downpour ‘head’, and a designer tub in front of a big sliding window/door. The sinks are carved rocks, very modern all of it but done with natural materials, beautiful-and everything works! Water is heated by solar and the tanks are large enough to not run out of hot water. The tents were far enough away from each other that there wasn’t noise from anything but the animals who were in fact in the camp at night, we saw a hippo, lioness and in the morning zebras, impalas among others…(hippos are noisy at night and lion’s roar can shake the tent, gently.) We were walked to our tents nightly by local guides hired for just this purpose-I liked that the local villagers were hired and the jobs rotated so that more people from the village could participate. Also, there is a foundation Honeyproject, which is helping through things like providing seeds to grow food and then sell to the camp(s) that was for us, nice to hear about.

The absolute highlight of the trip was without any doubt the stay in the Northern Serengeti and at Sayari Camp. It was top class. While we enjoyed the excellent facilities and food at the camp, even more important to us was the fact that this part of the Serengeti is quite remote and not very crowded. I remember that we once went onto an extended morning drive and during more than two hours of driving we only saw another car once or twice during all that time.

The trip up to Sayari in the small plane was extremely exciting but at no point did we ever feel out of touch or unsure of the next move. The “camp” has to be one of the most amazing places we have stayed in
our lives with tremendous luxury accommodation, first class food, the best vibe, and of course the must stunning scenery you could imagine.

Sayari Camp is located in a secluded area in the Serengeti. It was here that we saw the least number of jeeps and the most lions. Our camp provided our guide, Frank, for the next three days. With him we saw great game, and had some thrills with a lioness and real excitement crossing the Mara River over a bridge with no sides and overflowing with water hurrying to see a cheetah and her cubs. Frank was a safe driver and an excellent guide and tried to make sure we had a great game viewing experience.

Sayari was a lovely and deluxe camp that no one could possibly fault. I will say that for our taste it’s a little too contemporary and over the top, but it certainly had a great location. I liked that they used local people to escort us to our tent. The manager (we spoke most often with Barb) was really on the ball. The dinner outside was great. The food was a little too fancy – chicken liver for appetizers, really.

The Sayari Camp was really luxury, the guides were excellent the car fantastic, the food excellent, and the services really good.

Everything went like clockwork – all flights, transfers etc. were always on time and there were no hitches. The accommodation was excellent, the camps remote and quiet and so comfortable. And of course, the game viewing was stunning. Comments: Our guide at Oliver’s camp was excellent and I would like to recommend him. He has already established his own company which is Rafiki Expeditions and he is Akihiro K. Mdoe. Also the newly established Sayari Camp which is run by a South African couple. The whole set-up is five star with the most beautiful furnishings. Barbara and Joe are so hospitable and their guide Albert is one of the best. This was the most luxurious of the camps.

The camps were great. We are very low key and had more comfort that we expected, but we loved it! The staff at the Sayari camp was absolutely amazing and food was excellent (the food in general – YUM! Who would ever think you would gain weight in Africa!)

At Sayari, the game drive leading up to sunset was a special experience. Wining and dining off the hood of a land rover as the sun was setting and surrounded by all these animals was especially memorable. We didn’t know if our timing was going to work out for the Wildebeest migration but as it turned out they were there in the thousands and we saw a water crossing. Also saw a herd of elephants crossing the Mara River. Still can hear that incessant grunting of the Wildebeest, especially outside our tent one night.

The choice of Olivers, Olikari, and Sayari was exactly what I wanted in tented camps. They were definitely as good as advertised and provided the “Out of Africa” experience that I was hoping for.
The accommodations provided us more than enough comfort and space. Each camps tents, as well as the central dining and reception areas was configured in different ways so that we felt we were having a unique
experience at each one. At each of these camps the service was outstanding and available at all times.

Sayari was very good situated as it is overlooking the Mara River. The wildebeest were confused because it had rained quite frequently in that area so they were crossing and recrossing the Mara River. We saw 4 crossings in just over a day including 2 unsuccessful croc attacks and 1 successful one.

We really loved all the places that we stayed at but Sayari Camp was by far the best.
