Overview

Shinde Camp is an intimate camp located on the edge of Shinde Lagoon in the heart of Botswana's Okavango Delta. The main camp's unique raised tree house offers spectacular views of the reeded waterways of the permanent channel, which is home to a fascinating variety of birdlife. The Okavango Delta is made up of permanent water areas as well as large dry regions home to a variety of animals, reptiles and birds, making this beautiful natural wonder perfect for exploring by vehicle, on foot or by traditional mokoro.

The camp's relaxed luxury, personalised service, attention to detail and wide variety of activities ensures an authentic Delta safari in the heart of the Botswana wilderness. Explore the area with a professional guide on a morning walking safari, on a mokoro, or on a day or night game drive in specially designed vehicles.

'Shinde' means 'tree squirrel' in the local language and you may spot a few of these acrobatic creatures in the canopy above the lounge deck. As a guest at Shinde Camp, you also have access to the Gadikwe Heronry, an absolute delight for birders.

Rooms

Standard Tent

Shinde comprises eight twin-share safari-style tents each with en suite bathrooms that each have a shower and a flush toilet. Each tent is comfortably catered for with mosquito proofing, generated electricity, a handy flashlight and even a hot-water bottle to warm your bed at night during winter while tea and coffee are delivered first-thing every morning.

The tents have been strategically positioned so that from your private viewing deck you can look across the Delta's waterways or open grasslands.

If you are a large group, the neighbouring Shinde Enclave is also available for accommodation.

Facilities

Enjoy views of the lagoon as you relax on the deck by the pool, or while swimming in the sparkling lap pool.

Another wonderful tradition at Shinde is relaxing around the campfire after dinner as you enjoy the star-filled night skies of the Okavango Delta.

Dining

Dining at Shinde Camp is a wonderful group experience, as you join the other guests, camp managers and guides in the main dining tent for some delicious meals. Dinner is always a freshly-prepared 3-course meal, and gives you time to discuss your preferences for the following morning's activities.

Between meals, the camp adopts a casual 'help-yourself' approach to drinks and refreshments.

Shinde Camp

Thomas Sullivan

Shinde camp was literally teeming with wildlife. During our stay we saw jackals, leopards, wild dogs, hyenas, many bird species, elephant, zebra, giraffe and even a honey badger. Our guide Moses was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. We also enjoyed an afternoon of fishing while staying at Shinde, and managed to catch about 20 tilapia and pike, so that was a real treat. As for the camp itself, the tent was comfortable and all the staff very friendly.

The staff are so friendly and warm. We loved eating at one long table family style. The servers come around with many dishes and serve us. The rooms and lodge are beautiful--Relax was our guide and did a great job. We enjoyed the drives alone and also with others.
