Somalisa Camp
Tucked away on an Acacia Island along the edge of an ancient seasonal floodplain, the award-winning Somalisa Tented Camp offers gorgeous views and authentic bush elegance. Far from the madding crowd, the camp is built on a split-level wooden deck overlooking the famous Kennedy vlei line. Remote and romantic, there are only seven customised tents, each with a private viewing deck, luxurious en suite bathroom and a lounge area with a glass wood-burning fireplace for chilly nights.
Somalisa Tented Camp is the perfect place to take in the beauty of Hwange National Park, and to find inspiration and rejuvenation in the heart of the African wilderness. Built around an elephant drinking hole, the camp is visited frequently by these gentle giants as well as other wildlife, offering an ‘armchair' safari experience for those who happen to be in the camp's pool or relaxing on the deck overlooking the watering hole. Somalisa is a leading eco-friendly lodge, and the timeless elegance of this classic safari lodge is complemented with sustainable features that include solar-powered energy and a water recycling plant.
Big game safaris in Hwange include 4×4 drives, guided walks, birding, game viewing from secret hides and cultural tours. Charter road and air transfers to and from Victoria Falls can be arranged upon request.

Somalisa Camp has just seven elegantly furnished tents, all with en suite bathrooms and decor that gives a nod to the classic safari era, featuring beautiful finishes and the finest bed linen and soft furnishings. There are two double bed suites and four with twin beds. You may find it hard to choose between relaxing in the hammock on your private deck or unwinding in the grand bathtub with its lovely views over the savannah. In winter, snuggle up in front of the wood-burning fireplace.
The bathroom is wonderful – one generous shower is set indoors, the other offers a refreshing vista from a sheltered section of the deck outdoors. There are flush toilets, complimentary toiletries and wonderful dressing gowns – the coolest cotton kimonos in summer and thick towelling gowns for winter.
All suites have charging stations that include USB points for your devices.
Somalisa Tented Camp's main relaxation area opens out onto wooden decks that frame scenic views and an inviting swimming pool. There is a small library as well as a bar area, and although the camp is fully solar-powered, batteries can be recharged in the main reception area.
Between game drives, browse the safari shop for gifts to remind you of Africa.

After a day of guided bush walks and game viewing in Hwange, arrive back at camp for a magical dining experience under the stars. Under the light of an open fire and flickering safari lanterns you will be treated to fine cuisine and superb wines from South Africa and around the world. The first meal of the day is a light brunch served before early morning activities, followed by an early lunch with a decadent high tea in the afternoon and later, sundowners with snacks usually served while out on the afternoon or evening game drive.
A small, intimate camp with a relaxed, homely atmosphere. The guiding in Hwange is some of the best in Africa. We enjoyed seeing lion from our game drive, young cheetah trying to make a kill from our safari walk and large herds of elephant right from the deck. I especially love that every stay here automatically contributes to uplifting the local communities.

Both are great camps with Main having the luxury touch and lots of public space (plus a lovey plunge pool). Tented rooms at Main are large and very comfortable. Food, staff and service were all really great.
Game drives were excellent. Much more open scenery and a good amount of game, particularly elephants and lots of lions. We had the most wonderful experience of being stood in the middle of 100 plus elephants drinking our G&T's at sunset while they drank at the waterhole. Totally magical.
Flight transfers between camps were great. All very professional and all went as planned. The aircraft was a Cessna Caravan (12-seater) so very comfortable.
It was a gorgeous week, it brought us wonderful game drives, a lot of animals, knowledgeable guides and great lodges. The biggest luxury naturally was, that in Somalisa and Nyamatusi we were the only guests. All could be done just as we wished and liked it. We are enriched with exceptional experiences.
Our principal aim during this couple of days was the animals. Somalisa and Nyamatusi were just what we hoped to find. Lake Kariba is a wonderful piece of nature, the blue waters with the mountain range were a delight.
African Bush Camps made our stay unforgettable. From surprise sundowners to birthday cakes and anniversary celebrations with champagne – I can't say enough about the level of service. Everyone was so kind. Somalisa Camp in Zim stands out – we had a truly special connection with the people there. We kept wondering what we did to deserve such joy and cross paths with such wonderful people. The camps were all so beautiful and each had their own special vibe. It all feels like a dream.
We had the most wonderful time at Somalisa!! The closeness of the elephants was something we never imagine could happen. The service and the food was amazing. Our guide Ray was very nice and knowledgeable. Thanks for a great experience.
Somalisa Camp was a magical place and our guides were excellent.
