Overview

Situated just 15 minutes' drive Cape Town in the heart of the beautiful Constantia Valley, the owner-managed Cellars-Hohenort Country House Hotel offers understated luxury in its celebration of traditional Cape Town values and gracious living. The hotel is a combination of the magnificently restored cellars of the 18th century Klaasenbosch wine estate and Hohenort Manor House along with 9.5 acres of award-winning gardens.

Spend the day exploring some of South Africa's best wine estates, many of which are just an easy drive away, or enjoy trips to Table Mountain, the V&A Waterfront, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens or Cape Point. Take a relaxing stroll through the gardens or enjoy the hotel's many facilities which include solar-heated swimming pools and a tennis court. Or unwind in the skillful hands of the trained therapists at Fresh Wellness Spa.

The Cellars-Hohenort has two award-winning restaurants: The Greenhouse, which focuses on modern interpretations of classic South African dishes; and The Conservatory, which offers up simple but beautifully prepared perrenial favourites. Rooms

Double Room

Cellars-Hohenort Country House Hotel has 48 elegantly decorated, en suite bedrooms in six different room types.

Double rooms offer either a view over the garden or open onto a terrace overlooking the manicured lawn.

Premier Suite

There are eight Premier Suites that include private kitchenettes in addition to sitting areas. Some of the Premier Suites encompass two storeys and have either private garden areas or view over the property's lush gardens.

Suite

The Suites are all named after significant players on the development of the hotel or Constantia over the years and each has its own signature look. All have spacious sitting areas, walk-in closets and mini-bars.

Luxury Double Room

The Luxury Double Rooms in the the Cellars Main House are contemporary in style and have views over the incredible gardens. These rooms in the Hohenort Manor House are decorated in a more traditional Edwardian style and have vistas of the Cape Peninsula.

Facilities

Enjoy an afternoon wandering through 9.5 acres of award-winning gardens, regarded as one of the finest privately owned gardens in the world, or explore the picturesque countryside that surrounds the hotel on one of the complimentary bicycles.

Swim year round in the Cellars-Hohenort's two solar-heated swimming pools, both boasting fantastic views of the Constantia Valley, practice your short game on the Gary Player-designed practice green, or play a game on the tennis court.

Spoil yourself with a tantilising treatment at the Fresh Wellness Spa which is situated in the manicured gardens, making it an ideal place to relax, unwind, and rejuvenate the mind and body. The Five Senses massage is a siganture treatment and all products use natural and indigenous ingredients. For the finishing touch, make an appointment at Hair by Eloise for up-to-date hair care and cosmetic make-overs in a contemporary salon.

Dining

The Conservatory is a sophisticated 'all-day' restaurant and is located in the Cellars building. It has been built around a 200-year-old oak tree and offers serene garden views no matter where you sit. Using local produce, much of it from the hotel's own gardens, the head chef creates an award-winning seasonal menu that includes traditional classics and occasional recipes created by owner Liz McGrath.

The much-praised Greenhouse offers unparalleled views of the Steenberg Mountains and a conceptual dinner menu that allows the culture, terrior and flavours of the Cape to shine. Each dish is coupled with an excellent wine, both working together to tell the story of the region. Both The Greenhouse and The Conservatory are supervised by Relais & Chateaux grand chef Peter Tempelhoff.

For afternoon tea or nightcaps, heads to the sophisticated Martini Bar where you can savour signature cocktails, single-origin coffees and an impeccable selection of Constantia Valley wines.

Both restaurants were excellent. Indeed the Greenhouse is just exceptional, one of the best meal we ever had. Even the Conservatory was excellent (but service less efficient). I was not even willing to try this last one because I was not convinced by the quality of Martini bar and breakfast, but finally it was a very good and positive surprise for the dinner. Regarding activities in Cape Town, a picnic at Kirstenbosch is always a must (especially when it is so close from the hotel) and we also discovered the neighbourhoods market in Woodstock which was great.

The only regret was that we had such a short time there! A wonderful country house style hotel with impeccable service. We had a great suite of rooms. The afternoon tea was one of the best we have ever had and our tasting menu in the Green House world class.
