Overview of The Thatch House Boutique Hotel

South Africa, Whale Coast

A luxurious and rambling small hotel on the water's edge behind the Cape Fold Mountains, The Thatch House Boutique Hotel offers families, groups of friends and discerning travellers a peaceful and elegant retreat at the heart of the Whale Coast. Located about a 90-minute drive from Cape Town and just outside the seaside town of Hermanus (the world's whale-watching capital), The Thatch House sits on seven acres of private land and has direct access to the calm waters of the Klein River Lagoon.

Designed to showcase the natural beauty and fun-filled activities of the Whale Coast, this boutique hotel has been designed to deliver a home-from-home vacation experience. You have a wide range of facilities to take advantage of – including a beautiful, mountain-facing swimming pool, a tennis court and putting green – as well as an in-house chef and full-time staff. Whale watching between August and November is the area's main attraction but other activities like hiking, wine tasting, 18-hole championship golf and spa treatments are available all year round.

Best taken in combination with a stay in Cape Town, The Thatch House Boutique Hotel is easy to access and delivers an unforgettable holiday; it also works well with a self-drive itinerary that includes the Cape Winelands and the Garden Route. It can booked on an exclusive-use basis by large groups or multi-generational families travelling together.

One of my favorites! This is a beautiful property that has an incredible view of the lagoon as you walk out onto the lush green lawns. The rooms are stunning and spacious with phenomenal décor and design. Wonderful for families – kids can play games such as table tennis or just run around on the lawns. It could also be really romantic for couples. Amazing value for money!
