Thorntree River Lodge
Thorntree River Lodge is one of Zambia's most contemporary lodges on the legendary Zambezi River, just upstream from the even more legendary Victoria Falls. Built from local timber, stone and reclaimed railway sleeper wood, Thorntree River Lodge has an eco-conscious design that blurs the line between nature and 21st-century modernity. Its superb location gives you easy access to all the fun of the Falls – like sunset cruises, kayaking, nature walks, tracking white rhinos and, of course, awe-inspiring vistas of Africa's most indomitable waterfall – while allowing you peace and tranquillity on the river's edge.
When you are not out enjoying the greater Zambezi area, relax at the sparkling infinity pool that is set in the wooden deck that has an uninterrupted visual connection to the water (or even better, at your own private pool). Enjoy nightcaps at the fire pit in the sunken boma or on the floating deck and work off the stresses of your ‘real life' back home with a massage. Children can join the Ngwana Club to learn more about nature during their time at Thorntree River Lodge. Sundowners on the river is the classic way to end the day and little will compare to sitting back on Thorntree's private boat, an iced drink in hand, and listening to the cry of an African fish eagle and the comical chortling of nearby hippos as they wallow in the water…
Visit Maunga Village to see the wonderful improvements made by Go2Africa and the African Bushcamps Foundation and don’t forget to include a learning pack for a child in your check out basket at the local curio store. For every guest that stays at Thorntree River Lodge, Go2Africa will make a special donation to this village to further the impact we want to make.
Make a Positive Impact Through TravelAfrican Bush Camps Foundation’s mission is to partner with communities that are located near their camps to improve quality of life and achieve long-term conservation. They focus on three pillars: education, community empowerment and conservation, in collaboration with the local community and the staff who come from these communities. African Bush Camps cover the Foundation's operating costs with every night you stay at one of their properties, of which they contribute USD 10. Therefore, each donation received goes directly to the foundation projects. |

The various dining areas are large, open areas that flow with a walled wine collection stocked with fine wines on one side. Contemporary design elements blend with soft lighting and local artwork and the backdrop of the river, creating an exquisite space to sit back and enjoy delicious meals. Gin and tonics or cappuccinos are also served on the deck, near the river where hippos frequently visit.
Thorntree offers exceptional service from a wonderful team. The trees have grown beautifully since I was last there for the opening, providing pools of shade. The riverfront views from the communal deck or your own private suite are a welcome respite after a busy safari, it's one of my favorite lodges in Africa! We also spent a morning at Maunga Village, helping with the school feeding program and painting the newly built ablutions and renovated classrooms - an absolute privilege!

Thorntree still offers exceptional service from a wonderful team, the trees have grown beautifully since I was last there for the opening to provide pools of shade and the riverfront views from the communal deck or your own suite provide a welcome respite after a busy safari, still one of my favourite lodges in Africa! We also spent a morning in Maunga Village, helping with the school feeding program and to paint the newly built ablutions & renovated classrooms which was such a privilege!
I just love any lodge on this mighty river, but Thorntree is a place you can easily spend a few days relaxing; the rooms are so inviting with their outdoor showers, plunge pools & private decks. Although I loved the nature walk, kayaking & sunset boat trip, sitting with a book and G&T after a busy safari was a highlight!
‘Set on the banks of the Zambezi River, in Mosi-oa-Tunya Park in Victoria Falls, this authentic and rustic lodge provides an intimate and exclusive wilderness experience, with friendly and engaging staff.’
