Akagera National Park

Experience An Akagera Safari

Explore the Biggest Protected Wetland in Central Africa

Thanks to continuous efforts to restore wildlife populations and implementing strict anti-poaching laws, Akagera National Park in Rwanda has become the largest protected wetland in central Africa and a sanctuary for savannah-adapted animals. After the reintroduction of eastern black rhinos and lions, Akagera is now once again a Big 5 safari park and also a convenient stopover before or after a gorilla-trekking experience.

After successfully reintroducing southern white rhinos in 2021, more were introduced to the park in June 2025 as part of the Rhino Rewild Initiative. With wildlife thriving, there is plenty to see on the ground, but the skies also draw significant attention with around 500 recorded species – including the rare, prehistoric-looking shoebill stork.
