Detailed breakdown

Day 1: Enter into the Okavango Delta | 3 Nights

Okavango Delta, Botswana

Arrive in Maun and board a light aircraft to the Shinde Private concession in the beautiful Okavango Delta - the largest inland delta in the world. The flight is approximately 25 minutes and you will be amazed as the desert transforms into watery floodplains before your eyes.

At the airstrip you are met by your guides and transferred in a 4x4 safari vehicle to camp. Over a refreshing drink and light lunch you will be briefed on activities and safety during your stay. In the late afternoon, enjoy a short guided walk that will introduce youngsters to the sounds, sights and smells of the African bush.

On returning to camp, wash off the day's dust with a piping hot bucket shower under the stars, followed by a tasty dinner.

Day 2: Explore the Delta Waterways

The day begins before sunrise with coffee around the fire and a light breakfast before you head out to explore the bush and search for the resident wildlife that roam the area.

Return to the camp for lunch after which the parents are left to a lazy afternoon and the children are entertained by their guides. They will have fun recording the morning's discoveries in their Bush Journals and learn traditional bush skills like animal tracking or identifying bird calls.

In the late afternoon you will all set off on a mokoro (dug-out canoe) excursion to explore the watery channels, keeping your eyes peeled for the rare sitatunga, one of the world's most unusual and secretive antelope.

Later you can enjoy a delicious dinner around the campfire and discuss the excitement of the day.

Day 3: Learn the skills of the Bush

The morning is spent learning 4x4 driving skills and exploring the wilderness on a game drive.

As parents relax during the afternoon, the children will learn some of the rules and skills required in order to handle a rifle safely. Under your guide's experienced and watchful eyes your kids can learn to shoot a pellet gun.

Later, the youngsters have the opportunity to test their angling skills Okavango style, either along the banks of lagoons and channels or, for the more adventurous, from the mokoro.

Sit down this evening to your final dinner and make the most of the last night in this beautiful wilderness before you drift off to sleep with the ever-present chorus of the hippos.

Day 4: Travel back to Maun

This morning, the entire family will take part in a fun evaluation of your holiday. Try to identify several tracks, birds and animals and explain some of the skills that you might use to survive in the bush.

The children will be awarded their Okavango Delta Certificate and shirt, making them official members of the Young Explorer bushrangers.

After farewells to the camp staff and your guides, you transfer by light aircraft back to Maun where you will connect to your onward flights.
