Overview

This 4-day child-friendly tour of the Okavango is perfect for families who want to experience everything the Delta has to offer by exploring its beautiful landscapes and learning about life in the bush. Experienced guides will teach your children the basics of bushcraft, from what circling vultures could mean to how to identify various animals’ spoor.

Spend your time searching for the Big 5 from a traditional mokoro canoe or on exciting game drives. Relax at the camp in the afternoon while the children are being entertained and educated by the guides, trying their hand at essential skills like fishing and wildlife tracking. in the evenings, they are invited into the kitchen – which has no electricity or running water – to learn how to bake bread from scratch, the way our ancestors did.

At the end of their exciting Delta safari, all children will have an informal bush evaluation where they discuss what they have learnt. Then comes their proudest moment: a fun ceremony where they receive the certificates and T-shirts that make them official members of the Young Explorers’ Club!

Itinerary

Day to day

Arrive in Maun and board a light aircraft to the Shinde Private concession in the beautiful Okavango Delta – the largest inland delta in the world. The flight is approximately 25 minutes and you will be amazed as the desert transforms into watery floodplains before your eyes.

At the airstrip you are met by your guides and transferred in a 4×4 safari vehicle to camp. Over a refreshing drink and light lunch you will be briefed on activities and safety during your stay. In the late afternoon, enjoy a short guided walk that will introduce youngsters to the sounds, sights and smells of the African bush.

Returning to camp, wash off the day’s dust with a piping hot bucket shower under the stars, followed by a tasty dinner.
