I am a born and bred Capetonian, raised on the Cape Flats. I started my career in hospitality and worked at one of the top 5-star hotels in Cape Town. However, I had a strong desire to explore and discover more of the beautiful continent of Africa so, in 2011, I switched to the travel and tourism industry and joined Go2Africa. This decision changed my life and I have never regretted it.
During my time at Go2Africa, I have experienced many firsts, such as my first flight, first safari, and first encounter with Africa's Big 5. I also had my first time on a light aircraft which was exciting. For me, Africa is all about the people, and my best memories have always been about how the staff and locals of a particular property or country made me feel. I love to go where I feel at home and where I can be myself while, at the same time, learning from others and my environment.
As a consultant, I once had the pleasure of booking a trip for a solo elderly lady who was a great sport. She asked me if someone would be meeting her at the airstrip when she arrived because she could imagine herself sitting there alone in the middle of the bush waiting to be devoured by a wild animal. Of course, I was able to ease her mind and assure her that she would never be left alone.
My best advice for traveling in Africa would be to prioritise comfort when choosing your attire. This is particularly important on safari where it’s crucial to stay covered and protected from the sun. While I always strive to look stylish, I recommend reserving bright colours for dinner at the lodge. Additionally, I encourage travellers to remain open and receptive to meeting new people and learning from them, regardless of age, as there is always something new to discover.
