After school, I studied a business and marketing degree before moving into stints in banking and consulting before I landed in the travel industry by chance – which ended up being the best decision ever. I then worked in the front office of hotels and guesthouses, car rental agencies, reservations manager, and even a tour consultant for a family-owned safari business.
With more than 20 years in the industry, I have finally found my home at Go2Africa with my favourite job, sharing my passion for safaris and exceptional experiences with clients. My love for travel has now spilled over to my son who has been going on safaris with me since the age of 6.
I love children and have always said that I wanted to adopt or foster many children so a big highlight for me was visiting a small Himba Village with a guide as we travelled through Namibia. This wasn't a tourist village, but a traditional village where Himba people lived. As we arrived, a mother was holding a small child who rushed over to me as I put my hands out. For the rest of the visit, that baby was in my arms and eventually fell asleep – they were with me until we left. That moment and interaction will be with me for the rest of my life.
For me, the privilege of organising a custom-made safari experience to Africa for any client is memorable. Matching their personalities, desires, and budget with the fantastic products and destinations in Africa is the highlight of any day. The feedback I receive from my clients when they return home melts my heart – I can play a part in the thrill of a first-time safari trip to Africa, knowing that the client will come back again and again.
Leave all your worries behind and come with an open mind. Don't worry about time, schedules, or your outfit, leave everything (except your phone and camera behind) and just immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and smells of the bush. Don't travel without the essentials: sunglasses, lip balm, and a lightweight scarf to tie around your head.
Get accustomed to “African time” and make the most of your vacation. The stories you will share the most are the ones that were unexpected and happened by chance. Keep an open mind or you may miss out on the experiences of a lifetime.
