Overview

This exclusive safari camp comprises top-notch accommodation on iconic Chief’s Island – the largest in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. Twelve secluded bush pavilions with thatched roofs are located in the Moremi Game Reserve with views of the Piajio floodplain and guests all but guaranteed predators sightings as this area is generally thick with game. During the flood season guests are able to explore the miraculous waterways of the Delta by mokoro (dug-out canoe) in search of a diverse array of wildlife, including the elusive white rhino seen nowhere else in Botswana.

Twice daily games take place in 4x4s that seat six, meaning each guest has a coveted ‘outside seat’. After returning, be welcomed back to Chief’s Camp with refreshing hot towels and cool drinks. Birders should be in the look-out for jewel-like malachite kingfishers, while leopard frogs cling to the reeds of the Delta. Chief’s Camp is well laid-out, with a swimming pool, open-plan bar, safari shop for last-minute essentials and tranquil views over Piajio. Sisal, leather, wicker and wood combine to create tasteful and comfortable interiors. The wellness studio is on tap for massages, facials, scrubs and nail treatments during the sunny afternoons between a delicious lunch and your late-afternoon game drive.

Rooms

Bush Pavilion

The 10 luxury rooms are spacious and well-appointed thatch-roofed structures with canvas windows looking out into the magnificent natural surroundings. They have large lounge areas and are en suite with showers and double vanities. The outside area, which overlooks the water teeming with wildlife, has an outdoor shower with deck chairs ideal for daytime relaxation. All rooms have mini bars, digital safes, signature toiletries and universal plug points.

Geoffrey Kent Luxury Suite

Taking inspiration from its namesake, the award-winning photographer and philanthropic avid explorer, the Geoffrey Kent suite affords a stay fit for contemporary royalty. Sleek, modern designs and architecture are constructed in a discrete locale, creating a soothing atmosphere that is open to the surrounding wilderness. Guests are transported into a lavish, blissful haven that is at one with nature.

Floor-to-ceiling windows open completely to allow nature in. A private boma (firepit), dedicated plunge pool and secluded wraparound deck overlook picturesque views of the Moremi Game Reserve’s endless plains. A kitchen, freestanding tub, comfy king-size bed and spacious indoor dining area make your stay homely. Adding to the regal air of the suite, a private vehicle, dedicated guide, personal chef, waiter and housekeeper are included when staying in the room.

Facilities

The camp’s raised outdoor relaxation areas provide plenty of comfortable seating from which to enjoy the Delta terrain and the wildlife that inhabits the sparkling water surrounding Chief’s Island. A swimming pool surrounded by loungers and umbrellas is built into the deck – a great place to cool off.

An on-site spa facility offers a full range of packages with indoor and outdoor beds for guests to take in the wildlife and Delta scenery while they enjoy their treatment.

Dining

Meals are taken with your ranger and fellow guests who share your 4X4 unless you request privacy; the communal approach allows a convivial exchange of information about the day’s sightings and the animal habits within the area.

For romantics, a private dinner in the bush under the sequinned night sky can be arranged.

Afternoon tea and pre-dinner snacks have been replaced with a scrumptious all-day snack menu, offering guests a unique range of delicious delights.

We had a wonderful trip and we are all very keen to do Africa again. Safari in Botswana was very enjoyable, it felt more “raw” than Kruger and larger herds of animals and more freedom to drive cross country. Overall very positive experience. Thanks for all your help.

We enjoyed our trip to the Delta very much. I seem to always have my "travel agent" hat on when we travel because I'm always comparing and contrasting different camps, countries, etc! lol Both of us felt that Baines' and Chief's did a bit better jo b all around and had a better management style. We heard that from a few other people as well and actually from a couple who had been to Ivory Lodge in Sabi before going to Botswana. We did get the room that I had requested at Baines and Kings Pool but not at Chiefs. All in all, we're glad we went to the the Delta (the water was lower this year than in the last 3 years we were told but still beautiful) but don't feel that Botswana offers good value for the quantity of the game that we saw. That seemed to be a fairly prevalent opinion that we heard from others as well. So, you'll be glad to hear that we continue to sing the praises of South Africa and Sabi Sand and will continue to encourage people to visit!

More elegant food. The "tent" was about 30' x 30' with a thatched roof of about 12' high. They have an indoor and outdoor shower. Stanley and Chief's Camps have heated beds...cozy! They have wonderful common areas. The staff here is also that fr iendly warm type - just wonderful. You see animals many times from your deck or common areas.

Chief's Camp in the Okavango was incredible! We loved the tented elegance, the black African staff and all the amazing animals we saw. We had the best guide, Abner, who hd preternatural skills at tracking and was a comic to boot. He managed to get us into the heart of hunting with a pride of 6 lions - we were with them as they slowly ambled across water and grasses the evening before, and the next morning caught up with them as the hunt for buffalo was in full swing, ending with a kill of a baby buffalo with lots of drama. Not for the faint of heart, but truly a priviledge and humbling to see the great beauty, power and kill of these magnificent animals. Lots of elephants and giraffes and masses of birds and much more. We were completely smitten by the whole experience

Chief's Camp in Botswana was a delightful treat...with those warm smiles greeting us...and indeed with a song on arrival...we knew we would love it and we did. Ofcourse the animals do their part too. I haven't stopped talking about our trip yet and everyone is amazed at all we saw.

Chief's Camp was exceptional - we saw so many different animals, including following a pride of lions through the bush. I think Chief's was the highlight because we were able to go off-road. Food was fantastic, the staff (about 50 of them) put on a song and dance show for the guests one night and we met some really interesting people. We felt thoroughly spoilt by experience and the staff.

Chiefs camp was also brilliant, beautiful. Gorgeous, large rooms. Excellent service with wonderful managers. We got lucky there as it was not flooded and saw a white rhino, several prides of lions with cubs and several male Kalahari lions (I guess ra re for there)- no wild dogs though.

All the arrangements you made on our behalf were suberb,we had not one single issue and we thoroughly enjoyed the Sancuary Lodges experience. Our favourtite needless to say was Chief's Camp and in particular we felt that Poniso was the best guide we had ever had.

The wildlife was even better as we saw numerous lions (including two separate instances where lions had recently killed a giraffe), zebras, wildebeests, a cheetah and hyena one night as we were coming back to camp. We never saw any leopards or rhino , but that just gives us a reason to come back. The service was fantastic at both places, and the guides were teriffic. The baboons one morning were a little loud, but it just reminded us how close we were to the animals.
