Bumi Hills Safari Lodge
With its elevated position above Lake Kariba and a rim flow swimming pool that looks to be flowing into the eternal blue waters, guests would be forgiven for mistaking Bumi Hills Safari Lodge for a beach resort. Nestled in the remote hills, this luxurious lodge offers sensational views of both Africa’s largest man-made lake and the Zambezi River Escarpment.
Having Kariba right on your doorstep means spending days exploring the lake on private boat cruises and trying your hand at tiger fishing. There’s also the option of going on scenic walking safaris around the lake, or venturing further into the surrounding forests to discover fossilised dinosaur footprints. Alternatively, interact with the local community and learn about their history and traditions. While Kariba's shoreline has a rich diversity of bird species, its floodplain provides for even more game-viewing opportunities. The area is part of an unfenced private concession that is home to a range of wildlife.
Bumi Hills Safari Lodge is a tranquil stop-over between safaris in iconic destinations like Mana Pools, Hwange National Park, Victoria Falls, and even Zambia's Kafue and Lower Zambezi National Park.

Each room at Bumi Hills is designed for comfort and luxury. With air conditioning, freestanding baths, both indoor and outdoor showers, and private decks offering stunning views of Lake Kariba, the rooms provide the perfect base from which to relax and soak in your surroundings.
For families or groups of friends seeking a more exclusive experience, the Baobab Villa provides the ideal retreat. This private villa includes two large suites, a living room, and dining areas both inside and out. Guests of the villa also have the dedicated services of a butler and a guide, along with exclusive access to a safari vehicle, ensuring a personalised, flexible and unforgettable stay.
Bumi Hills's blockbuster is its gorgeous infinity pool, blending limitlessly into the horizon and surrounded by intimate wine and dining terraces. Gaze out over paradise and marvel at the brilliant pink-to-red-to-golden sunsets that Lake Kariba is famous for.
Indulge in a soothing treatment at the lodge's spa while savouring the fantastic views over the lake. Your children will be well taken care of at the Ngwana Club, where trained supervisors will help them pass their days with fun craft and cooking activities, as well as excursions to local schools and villages. ‘Ngwana’ translates as ‘explorer’ in the Tswana language of Southern Africa and the little explorers will also be able to learn the basics of conservation and explorer waterways and nature trails.

Delicious international and local cuisine can be enjoyed in the lodge’s fine dining room or on the outside terraces overlooking Lake Kariba.
Dinners for special occasions are easily arranged on an outside terrace or on the sandy shore of the lake itself.
Although we had great game drives & game viewing, I think this is a perfect addition to any Zimbabwe safari itinerary to include some more diverse experiences such as boat cruises, fishing, walking & authentic Tonga village visits. What I loved most about Bumi was the relaxed no-schedule, no set mealtimes flexibility as well as the pool & spa to enjoy some downtime in between safari activities.

With an unbeatable vantage point over Lake Kariba to the twinkling fishing boats on the Zambian side way in the distance at night, and on level with the soaring African Fish Eagles at night, Bumi Hills is nothing short of iconic.
Bumi was even better. The lodge is in a wonderful position and every single one of the staff members we encountered were extremely friendly, skilled, enthusiastic, obliging and professional. Madison, the game ranger who took us fishing and on game drives and boat cruises was incredibly knowledgeable, passionate and accommodating and warm. He is an absolute Gem who played an important role in making our visit to Bumi so enjoyable.
The pilot, Ronald, who flew us to and from Vic Falls and Bumi was also extremely friendly as well as skilled and professional. Everyone we encountered in Zim spoke impeccable English and Gordon was bowled over by how friendly the Zimbabwean people are.
