Camp Kalahari
Camp Kalahari’s location on a private concession bordering the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park makes it the ideal base from which to experience a true African safari. Set among the acacias of Hyena Island, it is perfect for those in search of that unique combination of style, comfort, fun and adventure.
There’s never a dull moment at Camp Kalahari, whether it’s the wet or dry season. The summer rains trigger a local zebra and wildebeest migration as well as amazing bird watching – keep your eyes peeled for flamingos. The dry winter season offers comfortable conditions and great game viewing as well as adventure activities – take an exhilarating quad bike ride across the Makgadikgadi Pans and soak up the vastness of the Kalahari Desert.

Camp Kalahari offers its guests various dining experiences ranging from picnic breakfasts on the vast salt pans to tasty lunches served in camp; best of all however are the barbecue dinners that begin as dusk settles after a long and rewarding day.
The camp’s expert chef might just prepare his one-of-a-kind ‘Pilli-Pilli Ho-Ho’ for you – a lethal blend of chillies marinated in sherry and gin which you are sure to remember long after you’ve returned home.

Great experiences: walking with the bushmen, the meerkats (they even climbed on our heads!), the quad in the desert and the famous surprise night in the desert. Amazing! They kept it a surprise until they took us to our beds in the darkness :). They do not talk about it because the conditions are not always right (there can be too much wind) and they do not want people to be disappointed. We were lucky and honestly will never forget the dinner with the coals beneath our seats to keep us warm and waking up with the sun in the middle of the salt pan. Epic!
The guide and the staff were also super nice, and the camp was really nice as well and the food authentic. There are less animals, and you see them from further away but that is to be expected. Probably good to start there because you could be underwhelmed if you start in the Delta first, only from the POV of animals though because the other experiences were outstanding!
Camp Kalahari – Warm and friendly staff and have never seen that many zebra and wildebeest in one place…thousands! The food at all the places was great. And all accommodated food allergies so well. The personal touches for my parents’ anniversary celebration was so nice. Camp Kalahari went above and beyond and the entire staff came in to sing traditional celebratory songs that capped off our trip perfectly. It was stunning.
This camp has a very laid-back atmosphere in a truly unique setting. I loved the different activities on offer and learned so much during my stay; about the bushmen, the meercats, how animals adapt to living in such dry conditions, and much more.
‘Camp Kalahari offers a return to the traditional safari style of the old explorers. An affordable and truly authentic tented safari experience with unique and fun activities included in the rates.’
Camp Kalahari created lifetime memories. The quad biking and view of those stars was breathtaking. How they created such wonderful meals in the middle of no where was quite amazing. The Meerkats were also a top attraction.
