Situated in the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, Grootbos Garden Lodge is a 5-star lodge surrounded by exceptional natural beauty. Constructed from local sandstone and sustainable timbre, the stylish suites are generously spaced out and screened by the beautiful gardens.

Garden Lodge is ideally suited for families. Go on nature walks, drives or horse rides to explore the reserve where wildlife still roam freely through fynbos. Between June and December, take a day trip down to the beach to see the southern right whales. A range of fun and educational activities is available for children, including treasure hunts and shell collecting.

Grootbos Foundation is a non-profit organisation that works to conserve the critically endangered fynbos, while also focusing on the training and skills development of the surrounding communities. It is an organisation dedicated to empowering others through ecotourism, enterprise development, sports development and education. All projects are replicable and scalable, with many generating their own income or becoming partially self-sustaining. From coaching soccer and computer training to clearing alien vegetation, each programme has been carefully considered to build a brighter future for the people who live here, as well as the environment.

    Garden Lodge is located in the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve. It boasts the most amazing panoramic views overlooking the reserve, mountains and ocean. Grootbos offers an abundance of fauna and flora which guests can learn about on guided game drives or hikes throughout the reserve. Guests can relax and watch the whales while enjoying a picnic, hike or drive arranged with one of the friendly and attentive guides. Children are spoiled for choice when it comes to the activities available – the children’s club offers wonderful adventures for kids to take part in. Rooms are lovely, large and extremely spacious. Garden Lodge is a lovely adventurous escape for the entire family.

    On arrival at Grootbos we were received very well and quickly set up the activities for the days we were to spend there. That same afternoon we were off to the Walker Bay Reserve finishing with a champagne sundowner watching the whales from a distance over Walker Bay. All activities were fantastic. Restaurant was great and we had very good dinners. All in all we had a great experience, and my son Santiago was desperate for a horseback ride and we had an excellent one led by two staff from the lodge who made it very special for us.
    The location, the lodge, the rooms were fantastic and we would happily recommend it to anyone. Fantastic Lodge.

    The Grootbos experience was a great way to cap off the trip with the most amazing food! I only wish we had another night there. There was just too much to cram in to two nights, but we did the best we could!

    Groot Bos was equally impressive – we had a great time hiking through the milkwood forest. No luck seeing the whales (again, the weather) but we did get to see the limestone caves, which were fascinating. This was a great addition to the trip – I’m so glad we worked it in.
