Lewa Walking Wild Camp
Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is largely rugged, with rocky grasslands and undulating valleys that offer a rewarding physical challenge for walking-safari enthusiasts. Il Ngwesi, by contrast, features flatter, sandier terrain, with a steep descent from Lewa ushering in warmer temperatures and creating a distinct walking experience.
Your safaris begin in the mornings and end in the early afternoons, ensuring you avoid any strenuous hiking during the midday heat. Each day, you’ll set out from your campsite with excited anticipation for the day's adventure. Your main luggage is transported to the next campsite on camelback. You'll walk with only a small backpack containing water and essentials, allowing you the freedom to walk unencumbered. The route is dictated by the wildlife, with guides taking you along freshly trodden animal paths, offering ample opportunity to see wildlife in their natural surroundings.
Lewa Walking Wild is a seasonal walking safari that operates during the dry seasons. Both reserves feature four of the iconic Big Five, with the elusive leopard at the top of everyone's bucket list, while elephants, rhino, and lion are more frequent but equally timeless sightings. Walking safaris are an authentic way to experience Kenya's untouched nature and thriving populations of wildlife, creating a truly memorable adventure.

Dome-shaped netted tents offer a private sanctuary, where you drift off to sleep beneath a clear sky of stars and the unfiltered sounds of nature. If there’s a chance of rain, staff will set up fly-sheets overhead to ensure you remain comfortable through a passing storm. Inside the tent, rustic bedrolls are laid out on raised camping beds and layered with feather pillows and warm blankets, ensuring a cosy night’s rest. Each tent is complemented by bucket showers, topped up with water warmed over the fire, while ‘long drop’ loos are discreetly placed in nearby tents.
As a fully-staffed guided walking safari, every part of your stay is thoughtfully arranged —your luggage is transported on camelback to each new campsite. Staff set up your tents, leaving you free to roam around the campsite and enjoy your afternoon lunch without hassle. Night guards are on duty to ensure your safety as you rest peacefully. With no electricity and limited signal, you're invited to fully immerse yourself in the raw elements of Kenya's untamed wilderness.

Begin each day with a hot breakfast, energising you for your morning walk. Upon arrival at your next campsite, you're treated to a delicious lunch, while evening sundowners around the campfire culminate in bush dining, with special dietary requirements expertly catered for. Your dining experience is completed by a selection of beers and wines for you to sip on as you take in the wilderness sounds around you on your private safari adventure.
Lewa Walking Wild is one of the most immersive safari experiences out there. You're not just seeing the land—you're moving through it the way the wildlife does, guided by tracks and instinct. The camels carry your gear, so you're free to really take it all in. What makes it special is the contrast in landscapes—from Lewa's rugged hills to Il Ngwesi's warmer, open plains—it's the kind of trip that stays with you long after your boots are off.
