Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero

The staff was amazing. This room was our favorite and the bed was so huge and comfortable. The food was great. The game drives and boat rides were much more crowded here than in the other places. The landscapes were much drier also. We did get to see a very large group of lions sleeping, like 11 or 12! The Botswana Independence Day happened while we were there so there was a special BBQ on the lawn (we tried caterpillars!) and we had an interesting history lesson by the fire at night. We also had a fun boat ride on our last night on a larger boat (which had an upper deck) with lots of appetizers and drinks!

We had amazing lion sightings in Chobe. Every day we saw lions doing something interesting-one day it was a mom and her cubs, another day it was three lions tracking/chasing Impala and the last day it was a whole Pride feasting on an elephant. Unbelievable.

The most luxurious lodge and the best designed and appointed rooms. Superb food and lovely staff. Great guide in Tony. I thought the Chobe reserve would be like a motorway when we first entered, but once Tony got us further into the park, we had a more private drive. The main problem with Chobe reserve is that the guides are clearly not allowed to go off road and don't. This means that to get close to game one needs them to wander across a road obligingly. This contrasts somewhat with the other reserves. The elephants at least were obliging and there were lots of them. They even swam the river for us, which was magical.

The river boat trip was superb, a welcome change from bouncing around in a Land Cruiser and a change to see hippos and crocs.

Our favorite camp… wildlife, accommodations, staff were all excellent.

The warm welcome and a completely lovely large room; we think it had the best meals and the BBQ was exceptional.

When we arrived at Chobe Chilwero it was lunch time and the “fare” was make-your-own pizza.The first night we had a “river” game drive that was both amazing and relaxing. No bouncing around in a Toyota Land Cruiser on dirt roads. Hundreds of birds, hippos, crocs and bathing elephants were observed constantly.For our last drive, we opted to go back on the Chobe River in the morning. We watched the elephants swing and eat water lilies, and a pod of hippos blocked out return for a while.The elephants, at night, roamed the paths between the Chobe Chiwero chalets and main house eating tree branches and knocking down the wifi.

The differences between the three camps and the countryside around them made it all very interesting. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable and brilliant at finding the wildlife. All in all, a wonderful trip.

We loved Chobe Chilwero. Great food, great game drives and we had a fabulous driver. Just wonderful. Same was true at Thornybush. We were very fortunate in our animal sighting at both places. At Chobe we got to see 2 lions mating and at Thornybush we saw 2 different prides and cubs. So cute. We also saw 3 different leopards, a black rhino and white rhinos, a hyena, honey badgers, hundreds of elephants, etc. Just wonderful.

Chobe Chilwero is a spacious and really comfortable lodge overlooking the spectacular Chobe River. I love the riverside serenity and manicured green lawns!

Chobe Chilwero was a different experience and we enjoyed the late afternoon river cruises where we saw a lot of different animals drinking at the river and a huge variety of birds. We also were fortunate to see a huge number of elephants walk around our jeep down to the river. Again, the food was beautiful, staff very professional and we met great people.

Chobe Chilwero was exceptional (food, accommodation, guides etc). Even though the time of year wasn’t ideal for game viewing, we still managed to see most of the big 5 (with the exception of Leopards).

The trip was fantastic. We even started planning for our return before we had finished the trip. We will definitely be using Go2Africa again. Everything went according to plan with not one hiccup. The two lodges were unbelievable and we will definitely include Chobe Chilwero in the itinerary of our next trip. The highlight was witnessing a pride of lions stalking and bringing down an impala. You don’t get to see that every day. Even the guide was excited.
