Overview

Bordering Chobe National Park – home to Kalahari elephants, the world’s largest species - this safari retreat offers splendid views across the Chobe River and its dry-season floodplains. Fifteen family-friendly bungalows are set in manicured gardens and Chobe Chilwero boasts the only full spa facility on Botswana’s safari circuit, with a tree-top treatment room that offers a unique pampering experience.

Guests at Chobe Chilwero can bask in the split-level swimming after a morning photographing sable antelope, water-weeded hippo, long-horned kudu, sleepy crocodiles and adorable banded mongooses in Chobe National Park. Then watch the sun transform from egg-yolk yellow to a blood-red fireball as it sinks below the far-off horizon…

Rooms

Suite

The air-conditioned brick-and-thatch suites have enormous bedrooms furnished with 4-poster beds covered with mosquito netting. The en suite bathroom has a free-standing bathtub, as well as a shower and a double vanity. All rooms have safes, mini-bars, telephones and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Facilities

Chobe Chilwero is a family-friendly establishment that welcomes children of all ages. A lounge area with board games and TV are available as well as child-minding services.

Rooms are built on either side of the central reception area that adjoins a dining room, bar and lounge. The dining room boasts glorious views of the gardens and Chobe River, and leads onto an outside terrace that begs for alfresco dining with the twittering birds.

Twice-daily game drives in open-sided 4x4s and motorboat trips on the Chobe River put guests into close contact with the incredible diversity of wildlife in the Chobe area.

The lodge’s split-level swimming pool is the ideal place to while away hot afternoons while a fully-equipped spa – with a unique ‘tree-top’ treatment room – soothes and rejuvenates. There is also a compact gym available in the spa area.

You can also undertake optional village visits and perhaps pop into the Dipetsana Women's Bike Shop, where you can undertake a scenic bicycle ride around the small town of Kasane. A day-trip to the Victoria Falls can also be arranged at extra cost.

Dining

Enjoy meals in the spacious dining room or out on the covered veranda to take in its stunning garden and river views. Breakfast is served before your morning game drive and comprises continental options with barista coffee as well as a hot English-style breakfast made to order. Lunch is usually a choice of two or three plated dishes plus dessert, otherwise try creating your own pizza for a delicious alternative.

After your afternoon game drive or sunset cruise, your 3-course dinner includes options of terrific game meat dishes such as eland and ostrich, and wood-fired pizzas with your choice of tasty toppings, each paired with a wine from the cellar.

Afternoon tea and pre-dinner snacks have been replaced with a scrumptious all-day snack menu, offering guests a unique range of delicious delights.

"Our favorite camp... wildlife, accommodations, staff were all excellent. "

The most luxurious lodge and the best designed and appointed rooms. Superb food and lovely staff. Great guide in Tony. I thought the Chobe reserve would be like a motorway when we first entered, but once Tony got us further into the park, we had a mo re private drive. The main problem with Chobe reserve is that the guides are clearly not allowed to go off road and don’t. This means that to get close to game one needs them to wander across a road obligingly. This contrasts somewhat with the other reserves. The elephants at least were obliging and there were lots of them. They even swam the river for us, which was magical. The river boat trip was superb, a welcome change from bouncing around in a Land Cruiser and a change to see hippos and crocs.

"The warm welcome and a completely lovely large room; we think it had the best meals and the BBQ was exceptional."

When we arrived at Chobe Chilwero it was lunch time and the "fare" was make-your-own pizza. The first night we had a "river" game drive that was both amazing and relaxing. No bouncing around in a Toyota Land Cruiser on dirt roads. Hundreds of birds, h ippos, crocs and bathing elephants were observed constantly. For our last drive, we opted to go back on the Chobe River in the morning. We watched the elephants swing and eat water lilies, and a pod of hippos blocked out return for a while. The elephants, at night, roamed the paths between the Chobe Chiwero chalets and main house eating tree branches and knocking down the wifi.

"The differences between the three camps and the countryside around them made it all very interesting. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable and brilliant at finding the wildlife. All in all, a wonderful trip."

We loved Chobe Chilwero. Great food, great game drives and we had a fabulous driver. Just wonderful. Same was true at Thornybush. We were very fortunate in our animal sighting at both places. At Chobe we got to see 2 lions mating and at Thornybush we saw 2 different prides and cubs. So cute. We also saw 3 different leopards, a black rhino and white rhinos, a hyena, honey badgers, hundreds of elephants, etc. Just wonderful.

Chobe Chilwero was a different experience and we enjoyed the late afternoon river cruises where we saw a lot of different animals drinking at the river and a huge variety of birds. We also were fortunate to see a huge number of elephants walk around our jeep down to the river. Again, the food was beautiful, staff very professional and we met great people.

"Chobe Chilwero was exceptional (food, accommodation, guides etc). Even though the time of year wasn't ideal for game viewing, we still managed to see most of the big 5 (with the exception of Leopards)."

The trip was fantastic. We even started planning for our return before we had finished the trip. We will definitely be using Go2Africa again. Everything went according to plan with not one hiccup. The two lodges were unbelievable and we will defini tely include Chobe Chilwero in the itinerary of our next trip. The highlight was witnessing a pride of lions stalking and bringing down an impala. You don't get to see that every day. Even the guide was excited.
