Tongabezi Lodge
Tongabezi Lodge offers exceptional accommodation on the banks of the Zambezi River just upstream from mighty Victoria Falls. Set under shady trees, the secluded camp mixes romance and exclusivity and makes for an excellent romantic African retreat, or a place for families to connect. Sit back and soak up the magnificent views of the Zambezi River gliding by. Independent-minded travellers will like the fact that there is no set itinerary at Tongabezi.
Enjoy doing as much or as little as you want although there are plenty of activities on offer. Victoria Falls is the adventure capital of Africa with a wide range of white-knuckle activities – like rafting, bungee jumping and bridge swinging – to choose from. You can also head out on nature and bird watching walks, 4X4 game drives in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park or boat cruises on the Zambezi in search of elephant and hippo. Visit local markets and villages for gifts and souvenirs and of course be sure to visit ‘The Smoke that Thunders’ – Victoria Falls, which is best viewed up close.
Tongabezi also has a private family villa known as The Dog House, which has three separate decks and two small islands connected by wooden walkways. Guests have the services of a dedicated butler and guide as well as an exclusive-use boat and game-drive vehicle.
Make a Positive Impact Through TravelTongabezi Trust School was born in 1996 from a desire to provide underprivileged rural Zambian children, living within walking distance of the school, with a sound and holistic education in a bid to improve the quality of their lives. Their vision is to develop the child as a whole and help them gain greater knowledge and understanding of educational and social issues, so they can make informed choices and have the chance of bright, promising futures. Today, Tongabezi Trust School has over 280 current students and is made up of classrooms, as well as an art room, a music room and amphitheatre, sports grounds, a library, and a canteen. The children participate in a variety of extracurricular activities such as ICT, sports, music, drama, cultural dance, chess and art. Tujatane also supports over 60 children who have moved on to secondary schools all over Zambia and many Tujatane alumni are at universities and colleges all over the world. |

The staff at Tongabezi were very attentive and accommodations in thatched roof structures was what we were looking for!
We had a very friendly and warm welcome, upgraded to the Nut House which was fantastic as are all the accommodations, the scenery amazing looking out over the Zambezi River. Shortly after arriving we were invited to have lunch (3 course meal) on a floating platform out on the river, while the hippos looked on. Later that day we went on a sundowner cruise on the Zambezi and returned to our Nut House to discover that our host had filled a bubble bath, surrounded with candles, flowers and a bottle of champagne and 2 glasses. 6 of the staff came out with a birthday cake they had made and sang happy birthday to me as I was 50 earlier on in the year, this was a special holiday for my 50th. It was a lovely place to stay, wonderful accommodation, surroundings, people, and food.
We had an absolutely amazing time in Africa. Easily the best holiday we have ever had. Everywhere we went, we were treated to fabulous sundowners in amazing locations, surprise breakfasts in the bush, great packed meals on the road and Anniversary cakes, dancing and songs for us! Tongabezi was fantastic. We had a wonderful time there and took advantage of most of the activities. Saw heaps of hippos, the falls (and did the helicopter flight), went canoeing and did quite a few sunrise & sunset boat trips to hang out with the hippos. The Lion walk was amazing.
