Overview

Tongabezi Lodge offers exceptional accommodation on the banks of the Zambezi River just upstream from mighty Victoria Falls. Set under shady trees, the secluded camp mixes romance and exclusivity and makes for an excellent romantic African retreat, or a place for families to connect. Sit back and soak up the magnificent views of the Zambezi River gliding by. Independent-minded travellers will like the fact that there is no set itinerary at Tongabezi.

Enjoy doing as much or as little as you want although there are plenty of activities on offer. Victoria Falls is the adventure capital of Africa with a wide range of white-knuckle activities - like rafting, bungee jumping and bridge swinging - to choose from. You can also head out on nature and bird watching walks, 4X4 game drives in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park or boat cruises on the Zambezi in search of elephant and hippo. Visit local markets and villages for gifts and souvenirs and of course be sure to visit 'The Smoke that Thunders' - Victoria Falls, which is best viewed up close.

Tongabezi also has a private family villa known as The Dog House, which has three separate decks and two small islands connected by wooden walkways. Guests have the services of a dedicated butler and guide as well as an exclusive-use boat and game-drive vehicle.

Rooms

Nut House

The Nut House is a beautiful glass-tiled suite with folding doors opening onto a private garden and infinity plunge pool. Sunlight streams through the glass onto the wood and stone floors making it a beautiful African retreat with stunning views of the Zambezi from its raised position.

Other Room Types

The Garden House is ideal for a family or couple who want luxury and privacy as the house is situated behind a private walled garden and set back from the river. To ensure your privacy, features of the house include a private dining area, large lounge, two double en suite bedrooms and a plunge pool.

Situated among the branches of riverine trees is the multi-level Tree House. The suite's king-size bed has beautiful river views while the extended mezzanine lounging deck is ideal for private dining. The lowest deck offers an extensive open-air bedroom and large sunken bath.

The Bird House has a private terrace for outdoor dining as well as an open-air sunken bath. Like all the other rooms, Bird House is open-air, spacious and luxurious and features a king-size bed with mosquito netting.

The Honeymoon House is exceptionally indulgent and private, overlooking the river and providing the perfect candlelit dinner location. It is incredibly spacious with simple flow from the bedroom to all the relaxation areas. It also features an open-air sunken bath with beautiful river views.

Dog House

The open-fronted Dog House is uniquely designed, furnished with local materials, and is perfect for families travelling together. It has a large, open-air sunken bath with beautiful river views as well as a spacious deck for private dining. Lying on the edge of Tongabezi's lush garden, it consists of three decks connected by wooden walkways that allow the waters of the Zambezi to flow beneath.

There is an infinity pool, a double-sided fireplace that warms both the living and dining rooms, and a bar with a view. The Dog House is serviced by a valet and a guide, and guests have exclusive use of a boat and private game-drive vehicle. There are king-sized bedroom suites with en suite bathrooms throughout.

Cottage

Each room at Tongabezi Lodge is unique in design and they all are comfortably furnished with spacious en suite facilities that include a shower and a bath with a view.

The five River Cottages overlook the Zambezi River through large windows and doors, and feature a large double bed or two singles with a spacious en suite bathroom and a generous indoor area - ideal for relaxation or private dining.

Facilities

The Lookout promotes relaxation and rejuvenation, and creates the space to make time for yourself. A raised building with a high-tech Internet roaming desk as well as multiple decks with comfy couches and chairs, this structure offers exceptional views of the Zambezi River and can be individually booked for private dinners.

The lodge has several terraces spread around the property. All of them offer breathtaking views of the Zambezi and they can be set up for a private candlelit dinner to celebrate a special occasion.

Cool off during the heat of the day in Tongabezi's large plunge pool as you gaze out over the Zambezi River, and later book yourself a massage or spa treatment.

Dining

Delicious local or international dishes are served in the privacy of your own suite unless you wish to dine with your fellow guests at the Tongabezi's dining table or on any of the decks.

One of the dining highlights at Tongabezi is to have a picnic lunch on one of the Zambezi River's many uninhabited islands, accompanied by a guide.

Another unique experience is the Sampan candlelit floating dinner, a floating deck on the river for private dinners.

"The staff at Tongabezi were very attentive and accommodations in thatched roof structures was what we were looking for!"

We had a very friendly and warm welcome, upgraded to the Nut House which was fantastic as are all the accommodations, the scenery amazing looking out over the Zambezi River. Shortly after arriving we were invited to have lunch (3 course meal) on a f loating platform out on the river, while the hippos looked on. Later that day we went on a sundowner cruise on the Zambezi and returned to our Nut House to discover that our host had filled a bubble bath, surrounded with candles, flowers and a bottle of champagne and 2 glasses. 6 of the staff came out with a birthday cake they had made and sang happy birthday to me as I was 50 earlier on in the year, this was a special holiday for my 50th. It was a lovely place to stay, wonderful accommodation, surroundings, people, and food.

We had an absolutely amazing time in Africa. Easily the best holiday we have ever had. Everywhere we went, we were treated to fabulous sundowners in amazing locations, surprise breakfasts in the bush, great packed meals on the road and Anniversary ca kes, dancing and songs for us! Tongabezi was fantastic. We had a wonderful time there and took advantage of most of the activities. Saw heaps of hippos, the falls (and did the helicopter flight), went canoeing and did quite a few sunrise & sunset boat trips to hang out with the hippos. The Lion walk was amazing.

"Accommodations, food, and personnel were excellent; very generous with food and drink. Safaris were good. We took a side trip to swim up to edge of Victoria Falls and sit right on top of Falls (beautiful view and quite exciting). Highly recommend"

Had a wonderful time here in our unusual room with no front wall. Slightly nerve-wracking when considering snakes and suchlike but quite an experience. Staff were fantastic, lunar rainbow a once-in-a-lifetime experience and the best - a trip to Liv ingstone Island where we literally stood in the water 2 feet from the edge of the Falls. Helicopter trip is also wonderful to see the full extent of the Falls.

Was seamless with a lovely driver who works at the Lodge. We were almost the only guests there for the 3 days of our stay & were really well looked after. We loved the place & had time to talk to the staff & get a real flavour of the place. There are a lot of activities on offer and we did a selection. It was good to have 3 days there as we could pick & choose without having to rush around trying to fit everything in
