Being On Safari

No, this is not necessary – Go2Africa will do this on your behalf. However, we strongly recommend that you download or print your itinerary to get acquainted with the timings while you are on your safari.

Communicating with locals, even if you don’t speak the local language, is not a barrier to connecting and engaging with the people you encounter during your African adventures. Here are some helpful tips to facilitate communication:

  • Learn Basic Greetings and Phrases: Learning a few simple greetings and phrases in the local language shows respect and can help break the ice. Phrases like ‘hello’, ‘thank you’, and ‘please’ go a long way in establishing a friendly connection. Locals appreciate the effort and are often more than willing to assist you.
  • Utilise English: In many African countries, English is widely spoken as a second language. While fluency may vary, especially in rural areas, you’ll find that many locals, especially those involved in tourism and hospitality, have a good understanding of English. This allows you to comfortably communicate, seek directions, and ask for recommendations.
  • Use Non-Verbal Communication: Non-verbal cues are a universal language. A warm smile, friendly gestures, and body language can convey your intentions and create a positive atmosphere. Don’t underestimate the power of a genuine smile and a respectful demeanour in bridging the language gap.
  • Engage Local Guides and Interpreters: When embarking on guided activities or tours, local guides and interpreters can serve as invaluable resources. They not only provide insight into the local culture and wildlife but also assist in translating conversations and facilitating meaningful interactions with the local community.

Remember, the key to communication is the willingness to connect and show respect. While knowing a few local phrases can be helpful, it’s reassuring to know that English is commonly understood in many parts of Africa. By embracing a friendly and open-minded approach, you’ll find that locals are often eager to engage and share their stories, creating authentic and memorable experiences.

We understand that a safari involves moving between various locations to explore the diverse landscapes and wildlife-rich areas. Rest assured that we have carefully planned logistics to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience for all guests, regardless of group size.

Depending on your chosen itinerary, you may travel between camps or lodges within the same reserve or move between different reserves or regions. We organise transfers using comfortable and specially equipped safari vehicles driven by experienced guides who are knowledgeable about the local terrain and wildlife. These vehicles are spacious enough to accommodate groups of many sizes, ensuring everyone has a comfortable seat and a pleasant view.

In some cases, especially for remote or distant locations, we may arrange internal flights or helicopter transfers to minimise travel time and maximise your time spent on safari. These air transfers offer scenic aerial views and are coordinated to seamlessly connect with ground transfers or camp departures.

Throughout the journey, our team will be there to assist you, providing information and ensuring that all logistics are well-coordinated. We prioritise your comfort, safety, and enjoyment throughout the moving process, so you can focus on the incredible experiences that await you in each new location.

It’s important to remember that bugs and insects are a natural part of the African wilderness. While they may be present, they typically do not pose a significant threat. Wearing appropriate clothing, such as long sleeves and pants, can help protect you from insect bites and reduce direct contact with bugs.

Additionally, using insect repellent is highly recommended. Apply a reliable and effective insect repellent to exposed skin to keep bugs at bay. Most safari lodges and camps provide mosquito nets over beds to create a barrier between you and any insects during the night.

Many safari lodges and camps offer laundry services to ensure that you can enjoy clean and refreshed clothing throughout your stay – also helping you pack less for your trip.

Laundry services provided at safari lodges and camps vary but typically involve a same-day or next-day turnaround. You can often hand over your laundry to the camp staff, who will take care of washing, drying, and folding your clothes. Some lodges even offer complimentary laundry services as part of their all-inclusive packages, while others may charge a nominal fee for the service.
