The Okavango Delta is a bucket-list item for every safari lover. This 7-day itinerary allows you to spend ample time in two very rewarding private concessions: Kwara and Kwando.
To make it especially convenient and to maximise the time you can devote to game watching, all legs of the trip are undertaken by light aircraft, which has the added benefit of allowing you a superb view of the Okavango’s rivers, lagoons, islands and animals (lookout for herds of elephants, which are easily spotted from above).
Beginning and ending in Maun, the gateway to Botswana’s wildlife-rich northern areas, this vacation allows you to pack a very satisfying schedule into a single week.

Itinerary
Day to day
You and your fellow guests will meet in Maun for the short but scenic flight by light aircraft to the Kwara Concession in the Okavango Delta, a colossal wetland that offers spectacular birding and excellent predator viewing.
The camp – which is located on the meandering Kwara River – has eight comfortable tents, each with a private shower and an outdoor viewing deck, as well a communal swimming pool that is ideal for Botswana’s hot afternoons. You will enjoy game drives in custom-built vehicles with a professional guide-and-tracker team, as well as undertaking exciting nature walks, mokoro rides and birding expeditions. Because you have the privilege of staying in a concession, you are unlikely to encounter many other guests or vehicles, and will probably have prime sightings of leopard, cheetah or lion all to yourself.
In addition, Kwara’s private hide allows you to observe nearby wildlife undetected – great for brushing up on your photography skills or perfecting your bird call identification.
Bidding the friendly staff at Kwara Camp farewell, you will return to the airstrip for the short flight to the Kwando River in the Delta’s famous Linyanti Channel, which has an enviable reputation for its unforgettable sightings of endangered African wild dogs, gold-flecked canids that work together to ensure the survival of the pack and its adorable puppies.
Once again, eight comfortable tents have been built under the mature marula and ebony tree canopy. Linyanti is best-known for its raptors (such as African fish eagles, Lappet’s vultures, giant eagle owls, and tawny and martial eagles) and its dry-season (about May to October) game viewing is considered to be among the most rewarding in the country.
Your time in Kwando will pass blissfully as you embark on morning and afternoon game drives, nature walks and boating excursions – a sunset cruise is a classic way to watch the sun sink beneath the ilala palms and the sky turn a romantic pink.
After six nights, your seventh day will be spent making your way back to Maun by light aircraft for your onward travel arrangements.
