Arrive at Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport and drive to Madikwe Private Game Reserve, located on the edge of the Kalahari in South Africa's North-West Province. Madikwe is considered one of the country's prime safari destinations due to its long list of resident animals and its malaria-free setting.

You will be staying at the luxurious Madikwe Safari Lodge, situated at the heart of the reserve and offering morning, afternoon and evening game drives conducted in open game viewing vehicles and led by professional, experienced rangers.

Children of all ages are welcome at Madikwe Safari Lodge: special activities have been designed to keep them active and teach them about the wild.

Day 2-3: Enjoy Big 5 game-viewing

Spend your days at Madikwe Safari Lodge enjoying thrilling game drives in open safari vehicles accompanied by experienced rangers.

Madikwe is a region of grassland and open woodland environments bordered by rugged mountain ranges and studded with rocky hills. It's home to Africa's famous Big 5 as well as cheetah, wild dog, spotted hyena, giraffe, hippo, zebra and many species of antelope and other herbivores. There are also more than 300 recorded bird species in Madikwe, and there's an intriguing blend of familiar savannah animals and more unusual desert specialists.

Unwind after game drives in the outdoor sitting area, set on an expansive deck with lovely views over the reserve and complete with comfortable cushions and bean bags.

Day 4-5: Head to the cosmopolitan Cape Town | 2 Nights

After checking out of Madikwe Safari Lodge, head back to Johannesburg where you will catch a flight to Cape Town International Airport.

Once in Cape Town you'll drive to More Quarters Apartment, located at the heart of this vibrant city and providing an excellent base to access Cape Town's must-sees.

Spend your days exploring all that Cape Town and its surroundings have to offer: there's famous Table Mountain, Robben Island and the V&A Waterfront of course but don't forget the host of world-class boutique shops and restaurants.

If you want to explore further, head out to the beautifully scenic Cape Winelands for excellent wine tasting and gourmet cuisine or rugged Cape Point Nature Reserve, located at the south-western tip of Africa and close to the penguin colony at Boulders Beach, a compulsory stop on any family holiday!

Day 6: Say goodbye to Cape Town
