This 10-day itinerary sees you exploring every inch of Zambia’s oldest and largest national park, Kafue – a true hidden gem on the safari circuit. Heralded as one of Africa’s untouched wilderness areas, Kafue National Park offers a unique experience of excellent big game viewing with barely another vehicle in sight – perfect for the seasoned safari-goer who wants to get off the beaten track, or the first timer with an adventurous spirit.
During your tour, you’ll traverse both land and water in search of its resident wildlife. The park is renowned not only for its density of animals, but the incredible diversity of wildlife that roams its plains. Red lechwe, puku antelopes, buffalos, wildebeest, cheetah, African wild dog, spotted hyena and lion are just a few of the species that use the grassy seasonal floodplains as a grazing ground. You’ll explore Kafue on classic game drives, guided walking safaris, boating excursions, and canoeing expeditions.
After days of exploring in Kafue National Park, you can retire in comfort. The three properties you’ll be staying at offer personalised service, every modern convenience you could want, and stunning views of the picturesque landscape, as well as under-canvas tents that add to the authentic feel of your trip.

Day to day
The charming, historic town of Livingstone serves as the starting point for your grand African adventure. After stepping off of your flight, you’ll enjoy a comfortable transfer to Kafue National Park, where you’ll arrive at your first stop on your journey through Kafue – Nanzhila Plains Camp.
Intimate and remote, this safari camp gives you an authentic experience in Africa’s untamed wilderness. And with Nanzhila Plains being the only safari camp in southern Kafue, you’ll have 741,300 acres of nature virtually all to yourself. A highlight of your stay here will be watching the animals frequent the nearby dambo (a set of complex shallow wetlands) from the comfort of your tent.
When not enjoying visits to the camp from local bucks and elephants grazing on nearby grass or trees, you’ll be on daily game drives, trying to spot four members of the Big 5 (unfortunately, there is no rhino in Kafue), as well as the many other resident wildlife. Your safari experience is not restricted to the day though, as night drives provide the opportunity to see the nocturnal creatures that go about their business in the dark.
After one last breakfast at Nanzhila Plains Camp, you’ll be transferred to your next stop – Nanzhila Lake Camp. Located just off Lake Itezhi-Tezhi in Kafue National Park, you’ll enjoy an authentic safari experience, from traditional game drives in search of big games to guided bush walks that immerses you in the pristine wilderness. Classic canvas tents under thatched roofs overlook the floodplain and shorelines rolling into the distance, and provide all the comforts and conveniences you’ll need throughout your stay.
Nanzhila Lake Camp is also privy to wildlife visitors who can be seen munching on nearby tree branches or quenching their thirst at the lake. However, game drives into Kafue are not to be missed, as the park is brimming with wildlife, including hippos, buffalos, elephants, zebra, and more. Water-based excursions are also on offer for those wanting a different safari experience.
Drink your last coffee and eat your last meal at Nanzhila Lake Camp before taking off for Kaingu Safari Lodge. The owner-run lodge promises authentic yet comfortable accommodation, personalized service that makes guests feel right at home, and a unique stay that gets you closer to the unspoiled wilderness of Zambia’s Kafue National Park.
Take your pick of land- or water-based safaris during your stay. Fantastic game viewing awaits on game drives through the park, while boating on the river provides breathtaking views of the flowing water, countless granite boulders, grassy sandbanks, islands, and wildlife using the river to bathe or quench their thirst. Guided walks through the park allow you to get up close to nature, while canoeing on the Kafue River is a fun way to spend a few hours between game drives.
Savour one last breakfast at Kaingu before you’re transferred to Lusaka for your flight back home. However, this is not goodbye, just a see you later, as we have no doubt that you’ll be planning your next trip to Africa the minute you get on the plane.
