10-Day Luxury Zimbabwe’s Mountains, Forests, Rivers & Lake Safari
Discover Zimbabwe's hidden gems on this luxury safari itinerary, where thrilling adventures and untamed wilderness meet to bring you an unforgettable destination holiday. With lavish accommodation lauded as some of the best in Africa, each lodge offers breathtaking scenery, from elevated views over montane forests to the gentle undulation of Lake Kariba and the Zambezi River.
Your journey begins with an overnight stay at Imire Rhino & Wildlife Conservancy — a modest beginning to an otherwise luxurious retreat. The first day unfolds with well-organised game drives, while the following morning invites an early start to walk alongside rhinos and elephants — a remarkable experience found at few locations in Zimbabwe. Continue to the Honde Valley for two nights of ultra-luxury at Skydeck, renowned for its expertly curated outdoor adventures. Here, you'll zipline across the majestic Mutarazi Falls, the highest waterfall in Zimbabwe.
Next, Nyamatusi Camp offers three nights of sustainable extravagance in timber suites that open onto a hidden grove of sausage trees. Walking safaris and game drives bring you closer to spotting rare wild dogs. Conclude your journey at Fothergill, the pinnacle of opulence in the Lake Kariba region, where private dining on a lake deck sets the tone for romance and tranquil fishing excursions offer a gentle thrill for all to enjoy.
This itinerary is ideal for discerning couples seeking an ultra-luxurious safari with upscale lodgings and world-class service. Encounter some members of the Big Five, zipline across sweeping savannahs, and retreat to your private haven where plunge pools offer the perfect vantage point, inviting you to savour bespoke wines as you unwind in the serenity of the wilderness.
Upon arrival in Harare, a private road transfer will take you from the airport to your overnight stay at the Imire Rhino and Wildlife Conservancy.
The conservancy boasts an exceptional wildlife volunteer programme that has safeguarded the region's population of black rhino. The lodge at Imire is nestled within a private corner of a vast savannah biome, surrounded by miombo woodlands.
Depending on your arrival time, you're invited to spend a full day exploring the park on game drives, with the chance to encounter four of Africa's iconic Big Five. Alongside their world-renowned rhino conservation efforts, you may be visited by elephants at lunchtime.
Your first day on safari concludes with huddling around the firepit sharing stories of the day's sightings, followed by a three-course meal in the lodge's elegant dining hall, before retiring to your room for a peaceful night's rest.
A not-to-be-missed early morning walk lets you stand alongside rhinos and elephants as Imire conservationists carry out their feeding routine. Afterwards, a scenic road transfer takes you to the awe-inspiring Honde Valley, with its dense montane forests and sweeping views of Mt Nyangani. Two nights at the exclusive Skydeck offer elevated luxury.
Once settled in, embrace the tranquillity of a guided walk through the forests of the Eastern Highlands, renowned for exceptional birding. You may spot Robert's Warbler and the rare Chirinda Palis as they feed on nectar from striking purple flowers.
Your first full day promises a once-in-a-lifetime adventure as you trek along the Skywalk, a wooden bridge suspended above Mutarazi Falls, Zimbabwe's highest waterfall. Crossing the bridge builds anticipation for an adrenaline-fuelled ziplining experience. Then, soar across the Falls at 60 km/h for unforgettable views. For those craving extra thrills, the Giant Swing features a high-ropes course where you are harnessed and launched from an elevated platform, delivering the ultimate free-fall sensation.
Don't forget your swimwear – a refreshing dip in the cool waters of the Falls, followed by a scenic drive back to camp, rounds out the day's adventure. Unwind on your private deck and soak in the hot tub as your muscles recover from the day's activities.
Being able to get out of the truck and walk in the bush to see a fresh lion kill up close was a highlight. Having our guide look after us from pick up to drop off and everything in between was awesome. I still miss Yona!
A road transfer will take you back to Harare International Airport for your charter flight to Mana Main Airstrip. You'll then spend three nights at Nyamatusi Camp, one of Zimbabwe's most luxurious safari lodges. Situated in Mana Pools National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this small yet protected area is naturally bordered by the Zambezi River. Here, you can watch crocodiles and hippos wading across the waters, or hop aboard a canoe and glide along the river, where elephants come to drink.
As a hidden gem, you're invited to explore the park's remote territories on game drives, searching for African wild dogs and lions as they travel in their packs across lush green floodplains. You will also have ample opportunity to visit the park's four permanent watering holes, frequented by the park's diverse wildlife.
Walking safaris offer an intimate connection with the Mana Pools habitat, allowing you to discover smaller details, from delicate flora to abundant birdlife. As the sun dips, return to your lodge, where a carefully selected bottle of wine awaits. Soak your feet in the private plunge pool and marvel as the final rays of sunlight adorn the sky in oranges, purples, and reds, before the park is enveloped in a blanket of stars.
