This 7-day itinerary forms part of our Trips with a Purpose collection, and it sees you enjoying every corner of Zambia's renowned South Luangwa National Park – while actively participating in community projects. For each trip booked, you will also receive a keyring for conservation and know that a portion of your trip spend is going to be used to positively impact communities & wildlife.
This wild and unspoilt safari destination is well-known for being the birthplace of the famous walking safari, as well as being a location brimming with a diverse range of wildlife. Regarded as one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in the world, the park is home to some of the most intense concentration of animals in Africa, thanks to the Luangwa River and its oxbow lagoons. Game drives and walking safaris through this region will see you spotting lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, zebra, vervet monkey, baboon, spotted hyena, giraffe, and wildebeest.
You can't visit the great South Luangwa without experiencing the famous walking safari. Immersing yourself in the untamed African wilderness and experiencing the bush on foot is an unforgettable adventure that sees you getting up close and personal with nature and the animals who reside in it. From watching wildlife graze and drinking from the Luangwa River and taking in the beautiful sight of Chindeni Hills, to encountering the smaller details of your surrounding environment.
Why Is This a Trip with a Purpose?
- Owner-managed, The Bushcamp Company is committed to the wildlife and people of the South Luangwa. They work closely with the expanding local community and with conservation organisations to develop projects that help conserve precious resources, support education, and generate a sustainable source of income to those who live around the Park. This includes working with Conservation South Luangwa (CSL), as they continue their efforts to protect and save South Luangwa's wildlife and natural resources. The ‘Commit to Clean Water’ project drills fresh-water boreholes for the Mfuwe community, and the ‘Meal-a-Day’ programme provides 2,500 children a day with lunch.
- In South Luangwa, you will have the opportunity to visit local community projects that include a vital water project, school upliftment projects, as well as learn about conservation activities at the NGO, Conservation South Luangwa.

Great location for the start or end of a South Luangwa safari due to its location close to Mfuwe Airport. It’s a hop, skip and jump from the airport and you are settled into camp, to take in the wonderful views, great service and delish meals.
It is a larger camp so perfect for those who want to blend in and not be fussed over too much, great amenities with a well-stocked curio shop, bush spa, photographic room and library. Lots of space and places to relax and a good variety of rooms to choose from.
It’s a popular lodge, so it can get busy, but works really well when combined with the more rustic bush camps for a balanced experience.

Itinerary information
A last breakfast at Mfuwe sees you off before youu2019re transferred to your next home-away-from-home, Chindeni Bushcamp. This tranquil tented camp sits in a secluded area along the meandering Luangwa River, with the Chindeni Hills standing tall in the background.
The camp stands high on stilts, shaded by a grove of ancient ebony trees and offering thatch-roofed buildings and under-canvas suites that provide a luxurious yet authentic safari stay. The camp also boasts a wooden viewing deck overlooking the lagoon below – a favourite watering hole for the resident wildlife.

After breakfast, youu2019re whisked away to the final stop on your South Luangwa adventure – Kapamba Bushcamp. A quiet sanctuary in a game-rich region of the park, Kapamba’s ideal location on the banks of the scenic Luangwa River is the ultimate romantic destination.
Each of the camp’s stone and thatched chalets are individually designed to maximise views of the river, while the open-fronted style enables you to view wildlife from the privacy of your room. For a change of scenery, Kapamba’s viewing deck overlooks the river and offers a fantastic perch from which to observe game drinking and grazing at the water’s edge.
This unspoilt section of South Luangwa offers superb game sightings, from predators to gentle giants, like elephants. Enjoy spotting wildlife on morning and evening game drives, or joining in on a walking safari.

Savour your final breakfast at Kapamba Bushcamp before enjoying a leisurely game drive back to Mfuwe Lodge. Once back at your first accommodation, you’ll be transferred to Mfuwe International Airport for your flight back home or to the next leg of your safari journey.
