Overview of Kaya Mawa Lodge

Malawi, Lake Malawi

Kaya Mawa Lodge is at the head of a crescent-shaped bay on Likoma Island, surrounded by mango trees and ancient baobabs. This remote island is home to a very small community, surrounded by the crystal-clear waters of Lake Malawi. The location is perfect for a holiday of total relaxation, and its remote location makes it ideal for romantics. Truly a hidden gem where you can while away your days on the beach enjoying the gentle lapping of the lake waves.

You can also choose from a range of outdoor activities, including snorkeling, scuba diving, and sailing at the full water sports centre, or head out on a mountain bike around the local paths on the island. Visits to local communities can be arranged, giving you the opportunity to experience African culture and the various community projects Kaya Mawa supports. Guided village and cathedral tours are also available.

This is my paradise: waking up to views over the lake and a freshwater swim, fresh food and juices with your toes in the sand, snorkelling, kayaking, massages to the sound of lapping water, magical sunsets. And your stay is making a difference to thousands of locals. When can I go back? Warning: must be prepared to slow down and relax as you’re on Africa and Island time here!

Kaya Mawa, was very relaxing – perfect timing at the end of the vacation. The food, service, and activities were top notch. You're correct in that the bungalows were a unique and amazing experience. The atmosphere was probably a bit much for a father/daughter get a way, but the manager of Kaya Mawa was very considerate and gave Megan a spare bungalow to herself. All in all a great place – people will just have to be ok with the famous Lake Malawi flies (didn't bug us much).

-Island: the view is magnificent when you arrive by plane and the island is very nice on ground as well. The room was very original, I have no regret choosing Msekwa room. Of course the bathroom and toilet completely outside may be a bit surprising at the beginning if you are not aware about it (but I was) and I appreciated that they gave us the choice with Khuyu when we arrived.
