Kaya Mawa Lodge is at the head of a crescent-shaped bay on Likoma Island, surrounded by mango trees and ancient baobabs. Standard Room

Built entirely by hand in partnership with the local community, Kaya Mawa consists of 10 stone and thatched cottages tucked away on a granite headland. There are 4 standard options to choose from, located at the bottom of a rocky knoll, with direct lake access and private decks. Each room though is unique, and has a different layout from the other. Going to the bathrooms is a bit different at Kaya Mawa as they are outside and/or open planned to their respective rooms.

Other Room Types:

Ideal for honeymooners or families there are Premium rooms and Pool suites. Every unit features a sunken stone bathtub, private terrace, and rim flow pool.

Enjoy a range of fresh juices and drinks throughout the day overlooking the lake as you relax on the large main deck. For even more serenity, arrange a spa treatment - would could be more rejuvenating than a massage while lulled by the song of island birdlife and the soft lap of water?

In true island style, dine on full breakfasts and lunches which include fruits and salads made from fresh local ingredients.

Guests can enjoy private dinners in a variety of idyllic locations, including the beach, deck, or under the gazebo.

Kaya Mawa Lodge

Matthew Brown

Kaya Mawa, was very relaxing - perfect timing at the end of the vacation. The food, service, and activities were top notch. You’re correct in that the bungalows were a unique and amazing experience. The atmosphere was probably a bit much for a fa ther/daughter get a way, but the manager of Kaya Mawa was very considerate and gave Megan a spare bungalow to herself. All in all a great place - people will just have to be ok with the famous Lake Malawi flies (didn’t bug us much).

-Island: the view is magnificent when you arrive by plane and the island is very nice on ground as well. The room was very original, I have no regret choosing Msekwa room. Of course the bathroom and toilet completely outside may be a bit surprising a t the beginning if you are not aware about it (but I was) and I appreciated that they gave us the choice with Khuyu when we arrived.
