Rattray's on Mala Mala
Rattray’s on Mala Mala is located on the banks of the Sand River in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, a private and exclusive conservation area which shares an open border with the Kruger National Park. A refined and elegant safari lodge with authentic quality furnishings and original works of art, Rattray's on Mala Mala captures the spirit of a classic African Safari.
The emphasis is however firmly on excellent game viewing: with no children under 16 allowed in camp and only four guests per game viewing vehicle, guests can concentrate on the main attraction – the extraordinary wildlife of the reserve. Sightings of the Big 5 are common and there are plenty of opportunities to view animal interactions during your morning and afternoon/evening game drives and nature walks, led by superb and passionate guides.

Our first time in Sabi Sands, and what fantastic game viewing – we saw a cheetah kill. Luxurious lodge, great staff, will definitely recommend to others.
We stayed one night in the main camp and then were transferred to Rattray’s. Rattray’s was incredible. The room, food, service and setting were all flawless. We felt right at home and at ease with everyone from the manager Alex, to the bartender and other staff. We had the same ranger/guide Adam Parker and he was just excellent. Great skills and a pleasure to deal with daily. We had the vehicle to ourselves on all days and that was really great. We saw several lions in multiple prides, a few lion kills, 8 white rhinos, 3 leopards (night drive action on two nights!), 2 African wild dog packs, hyena, and large herd of elephants in the river. Also, many other animals. They set us up for a short hike and a gourmet breakfast atop a hill with vast views and that was indeed, a lovely surprise. Both Prem and I simply loved Rattray’s.
Rattrays at Mala Mala absolutely exceeded our expectations. Money well spent! The accommodations were luxurious and the service and personal attention from everyone we met was extraordinary. Rattray’s experience was special.
The safari at Rattray’s was unforgettable. It raised the benchmark so high.
