Your journey kicks off in Madagascar’s vibrant capital, Antananarivo, where you’ll explore rooftop markets and take historical walking tours. From there, you’ll head eastward for a mystical safari journey through the rainforests of Andasibe-Mantadia National Park and the surrounding reserves.
Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to encounter a variety of lemurs, including the ‘Indri Indri’ and the diademed sifakas, as well as spot crocodiles and other charming critters. Some of the wildlife found seen here are found nowhere else on Earth. This itinerary offers hikes ranging from moderate to easy, making it ideal for adventure seekers looking for an active holiday.
On arrival at Ivato International Airport, you will be transferred to Maison Gallieni for your first night in Madagascar. After a hearty breakfast, you will be transferred to Mantadia Lodge for your next three nights. As you make your way to the lodge, a guide will take you on a cultural tour of the city, either by foot or driving. Wander through the cobblestone streets, as you gaze upon traditional Malagasy houses and the mammoth Tana's Rova (the Queens' Palace) – the highest point in the city with breathtaking skyline views.
As you continue your drive eastward, you’ll be surrounded by rolling highlands landscape, dotted with traditional villages. As you enter Andasibe, you'll stop at the Peyrieras Butterfly Farm. Your first night concludes with a quick check-in at Mantadia Lodge, followed by a moonlit walk through the Mitsinjo Reserve rainforest.
For the rest of your stay, you’re in for a variety of hikes ranging from moderate to gentle. First, through the main forest of Andasibe-Mantadia National Park, to see the largest lemur species in Madagascar, the Indri Indri. Later, you'll hop over to the laid-back Andasibe Village with its cool markets surrounded by alpine-style buildings. The rest of your time here includes a gentle hike through the Analamazaotra Special Reserve and a visit to the Vakona Reserve.
