Kenya is a stunning African destination that offers a rich display of wildlife across diverse landscapes. You'll explore open grassy plains, trek across expansive mountain ranges, and meander along riverine forests. This trip combines three unique vistas into one package: the misty hills of the Mathews Mountain Range, the vast savannah plains of Maasai Mara, and the dense Loita Forest.
For a tranquil start to your holiday, begin at Manzili House, situated in the leafy suburbs of Karen, Nairobi. Enjoy lounging by the pool before embarking on your much-anticipated safari. Then, journey to Kitich Forest Camp nestled in the Mathews Mountain Range. Explore the ancient thickets on foot and hop between the crystal-clear natural rock pools.
Next up is the coveted Masai Mara Reserve, famous for its large concentrations of wildlife. You'll stay on the boundary of this conservancy at Speke's Camp overlooking the Masai Mara plains. Afterward, you'll head out for a once-in-a-lifetime mobile camping and walking safari tour in the Loita Forest. You'll be guided along the Maasai Trails under the care and expertise of expert local guides.
This unique Kenyan getaway experience combines sublime nature reserves with rolling vistas and ancient walking safari trails. This itinerary is ideal for travellers with moderate fitness levels, looking to explore African landscapes on foot.
Upon arrival, meet your guide for a road transfer to Manzili House. This exclusive homestay welcomes you to ease into holiday mode amidst the calm serenity of Nairobi's most famous leafy suburb, Karen.
Just a short drive from a number of tourist highlights, it offers a variety of options for you to enjoy on your first day in Kenya. You can select between visiting the world's only wildlife capital, Nairobi National Park, or paying a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum to learn more about the Danish ‘Out of Africa' author.
Or, if you're simply looking to relax on your first day, then stroll out into the lush courtyard for a refreshing dip in the pool. Uncork a sumptuous bottle of wine and catch some sun on a comfy chaise lounge, or out on the rooftop terrace for sundowners under the shade of iconic African acacia trees. End your first night by heading out for dinner at any of the nearby restaurants before cozying up in your elegant suite in anticipation of your safari adventure.
Bed & Breakfast
We stayed 4 nights at each property. The length of time at each site worked very well for us to feel that we had a good experience at each. In addition, the three locations provided differing experiences, which was greatly appreciated. The Director of each camp did an excellent job in providing a warm and welcoming experience, and the transport between the sites also worked well.
After a complimentary breakfast, a road transfer takes you to Wilson Airport for a scheduled charter flight to the Namunyak Conservation Area where you'll be greeted upon landing by your guide. The drive to camp will be a scenic 2.5-hour meander through the conservancy to your home for the next three nights, Kitich Forest Camp. Nestled in the majestic Mathews Mountain Range with lush mountain forests, a vibrant cadence of wildlife permeates every corner of the camp.
Your first full day will be spent hiking along the mountain range to explore the ancient forests. An expert Samburu tracker will be at your side to reveal the secrets hidden in this dense valley, including exploring fresh spring-fed rock pools and discovering the rare De Brazza monkey. You'll also spot safari staples such as elephants and buffalo. After your swim, indulge in a scenic, tranquil bush picnic before heading back to camp to cozy up in the communal lounges overlooking the river glades.
The next day, immerse yourself in the rich Samburu culture by visiting the Singing Wells and the Ngilai Village. Here you'll get to explore the local markets that keep this community flourishing and listen out for sounds of the young Samburu warriors singing their traditional songs as they go about their daily work. Upon arrival back at the camp, settle in for sundowners on your private veranda as you survey the Kitich Valley.

The next morning, it's back to the airstrip for a flight to the iconic Masai Mara. A three-night stay at Speke's Camp offers traditional safari charm in prime bushland. It is located on the boundary of Masai Mara Reserve, with direct access to the conservancy less than a 10-minute drive away. The camp is celebrated as a private nature getaway and offers ample relaxation space away from the hustle-and-bustle of busy campsites.
Awaken each morning surrounded by the bush as you indulge in a hearty breakfast before setting out for the day’s adventure. Exclusive access to a private game vehicle offers flexibility and ease for your day. You can spend hours spotting hippos galavanting in the Olare Orok River or witnessing the millions of buffalo as they commit to their seasonal migration. This can be arranged to suit your wake-up times or even after lunch. In addition to tracking the renowned Big 5, your private guide and spotter will have you listening out for the braying of zebras as they move across these vast savannah plains.
A communal mess tent and lounge area overlooking the floodplains offer you ample opportunity to just kick back and enjoy the relaxing ambiance of the wilderness. A well-stocked bar means you'll always have a refreshing drink waiting for you.

After another delicious breakfast, a road transfer takes you to Maasai Trails Camp for three nights of walking safaris through the Great Rift Valley. Upon arrival, meet your Maasai guide, who will give you a breakdown of what to expect over the next few days. You'll spend each night in the comfort of a mobile canvas tent as the undisturbed sounds of nature whisk you to sleep.
As you traverse the Rift Valley, you'll encounter hidden waterfalls and gaze up at seemingly endless mammoth trees. You'll cross slow-flowing rivers and trek up rolling hills as you take in the breathtaking beauty of your natural surroundings. You'll explore the mysterious and misty ‘Forest of the Lost Child' and learn all about the folklore that gave the forest its name.
Each days' walk is split into two slots, three-hours in the morning and three-hours in the afternoon with a delightful picnic lunch in between.
