Livingstone, Hwange & Mana Pools
Starting off with a stay at an elegant tented camp on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls, this luxury safari takes a well-paced week to showcase not just the ‘Smoke that Thunders’ but Zimbabwe’s best game-viewing destinations as well. You will enjoy two nights in the heavyweight Hwange National Park and another two at Mana Pools, the gateway to the wild lower Zambezi. Getting from Hwange to Mana Pools is as simple as boarding a light aircraft for the short flight, meaning you maximise your time in the national parks.
Perfect for those who want to experience a safari away from the crowds and with activities focusing on the beauty and wildlife of the region, a few of the itinerary’s highlights include a tour of mighty Victoria Falls, game drives, river cruises, canoe safaris and guided walks.
Toka Leya Lodge was beautiful and the staff were great; since we were the only ones there, we got very personalized service & they treated us like royalty – even made me a birthday cake! There is no set schedule here so we planned things with the guide the day before. We were taken to Vic Falls for a walking tour, and then I convinced my mom to Zip-Line with me for my birthday. That afternoon we opted to do a game-drive which we hadn’t planned on doing, and it turned out to be fantastic – we saw a lot of animals, including a herd of rhinos (my favorite) being guarded. Another day would be good for more activities on the river and a tour of the towns (Livingstone &...

Linkwasha was amazing and lovely, and one of our favorite places. The accommodations were superb and well-designed, the food and dining arrangements were excellent and the staff were beyond accommodating and welcoming. I recall asking Ramona why she picked it, and her response was a “different experience;” and it was amazing. We did not want to leave. One night we forgot to turn our heat on before we went to dinner and it was cold…the next night, we had electric blankets! We were always on the lookout for herding elephants, and we were fortunate to be a single couple with one guide the entire time. We were always on the lookout for herding elephants, and we were fortunate to be a single couple with one guide the entire time. We opted to go to an African Village We met the chief of his tribe of 500 or so. His name was Johnson and his wife's name was Dorothy. He told us to marry Dorothy, he had to give Dorothy's family 6 cows. He is a member of the Nbelele Tribe. The chief showed us his meeting area and then we were taken to his modest home. He lives in an area with 13 members of his family in several different huts. His house took 2 years to build and was made up of a room with a TV, a Bedroom and another room assumedly for children. He had a solar panel and a generator that produced enough for TV and electricity. He then told us that his wife was a designer and showed us her goods which included all kinds of African-type merchandise some commercial and others made by her. It was a special experience.
Aside from the superb location alongside the Zambezi River, what truly impressed me about Rukomechi was the staff. I stayed two extra nights owing to inclement weather, and they went above and beyond to make it feel like home. Being on a concession made a notable difference to quality of sightings.
After your final breakfast at Linkwasha, you will be transferred to Ruckomechi Camp, a well-established lodge set in the western region of Mana Pools National Park, via light aircraft. Your final camp for this tour is located in a grove of acacia and mahogany trees overlooking the Zambezi River and the mountains of the Great Rift Valley.
Go on daily game walks with armed guides and game drives in 4×4 vehicles. It is classic big game country and you’ll be keeping an eye out for predators including lion, wild dog, leopard, cheetah as well as buffalo at the river's edge while kudu, zebra, impala and waterbuck can be seen on the Zambezi’s floodplains. Elephants often splash about in the waterhole in front of the camp as do large numbers of water birds.
Unwind back at the camp in the beautiful infinity pool and central dining, lounge and library area – all connected to the tented rooms by walkways.
