Tanzania’s Conservation & Community Safari
This incredible 10-day itinerary showcases some of Tanzania's best wildlife destinations: the Tarangire National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Serengeti. The focus of the journey is on conservation and community in these remote and untouched wilderness areas.
Your first night will be spent at Tanzania's largest coffee plantation before you head off to Oliver's Camp in the Tarangire National Park. You will learn all about conservation efforts for lion populations and spend your days on game drives and walking safaris – immersing yourself into the untamed wilds of Africa.
You then move on to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you will be enveloped in luxury at The Highlands. The lodge is on the edge of the mountain forest that borders the Olmoti volcano, and it is here that you will meet and engage with the Maasai tribe, one of the most famous tribes on the continent. The last leg of your journey takes you to Namiri Plains, a luxury tented camp that is an area that was once closed to restore cheetah populations – you will enjoy some of the best predator sightings in East Africa.
When you book this safari Go2Africa will donate $5 to the VETA Hotel and Tourism Training Institute to support the annual sponsorship of two students.
The Arusha Coffee Lodge was the perfect place to land. I am so glad we stayed there. It was so comfortable, beautiful and is a truly special place. I hope I have the opportunity to stay there again!

The lodge is set on Tanzania’s largest coffee plantation and is an ideal start to a Tanzanian safari. Reminiscent of traditional plantation houses, Arusha Coffee Lodge is a sanctuary of aromatic tranquillity and a welcome retreat after a long international flight. Vibrant gardens, a spa and a collection of boutiques and a swimming pool await.

We loved everything about it, great guides, and loved our waiter George – great personality.
After a delicious breakfast, you will be transferred to Oliver’s Camp. Oliver’s Camp is situated in the remote south-eastern reaches of Tarangire National Park. Overlooking a flood plain of the Minyonyo Pools, part of the Tarangire River, the camp has easy access to a dense concentration of wildlife. At Oliver’s Camp, you will join passionate guides for walking safaris, you can sail over the plains in a hot-air balloon or examine leopard tracks along dusty roads – it’s the quintessential safari experience.
On this conservation and community themed itinerary, you will enjoy a presentation from the Tarangire Lion Research Initiative (TLRI). The TRLI collects information on the ecology, demography and human-lion interactions to understand the dynamics and opportunities for lion conservation in the Tarangire-Manyara ecosystem. This landscape has the second largest remaining lion population in Tanzania’s northern protected areas.

The service was truly beyond anything I could have imagined. While the drive to the lodge is a bit long, it was a beautiful journey that allowed us to see more of Africa along the way. The lodge itself is stunning, with rooms that are both stylish and very comfortable. The food was excellent, and the service was exceptional throughout our stay.
After breakfast at Oliver’s Camp, you will be transferred in a private vehicle to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Your home for the next few days is at The Highlands, set on the slopes of an extinct volcano (Olmoti) with an exclusive selection of high-tech tents.
The camp feels remote but is within easy reach of Ngorongoro, where you can go on long game drives. You can hike up to the top of Olmoti for staggering views or take a half-day trip to the soda lake in Empakaai Crater, where thousands of pink flamingos congregate. You can also interact with the local community and learn about Maasai culture and walk the cattle back to the boma at the end of the day.

The Namiri Plains Camp staff was perfection. Every team member seemed so well trained and authentically happy to serve others. Innocent (our server), Moussa (housekeeping), Augustino (our bush guide & transfer), and Respick (the manager) were as good as it gets in the hospitality industry. The surprise cake and celebration for our son’s graduation was so unexpected. I was crying it was so emotional and all 20 (ish) team members that came out to help us celebrate seemed so genuinely happy for our family and like they really enjoyed celebrating with us.
A road transfer takes you on the last leg of your conservation and community safari in Tanzania, to Namiri Plains Camp in the renowned Serengeti. Namiri Plains is located in a remote Eastern corner that was once closed to create a safe haven for the cheetah population to grow. This is undoubtedly big cat country, and the camp is tucked away in a grove of fever trees.
One of the many highlights you will enjoy at Namiri Plains Camp is spending an evening with a Serengeti Cheetah Research Project researcher, who monitors the demographics of between fifty to eighty cheetahs in the area, one of the last few remaining natural ecosystems where cheetah exist in viable numbers.
You will not only have the chance to see and learn about the cheetahs of the Serengeti but also encounter the likes of lions, wildebeest herds and a plethora of wildlife out on game drives, or even from the comfort of your own luxury room – this is untamed Africa.
Reliable predator sightings, especially cheetah
