Overview

Hugging the north-western tip of Manda Island, one of the many unspoilt, idyllic islands found in the Lamu Archipelago, is Manda Bay. It lies in calm waters on a long sandy protected beach. For centuries this has been a calling point for the Arab dhow traders, a safe haven where nature is allowed to take its course without the interference of the modern world, and this tranquil ambience permeates the resort.

There is something for everyone at Manda Bay. You can enjoy the comforts and the beautiful setting; relax next to the water or indulge in a massage. If you're feeling energetic there are water sports such as deep-sea fishing in search of the marlin and sailfish, windsurfing, water skiing and scuba diving, as well as cultural visits and dhow safaris.

Rooms

Beachfront Room

Manda Bay's 12 beach cottages consist of 7 rooms set right on the seafront and 5 set slightly behind on higher ground. In keeping with the local landscape and tradition the cottages are constructed from, and decorated with, local materials.

All the spacious, breezy rooms have enormous flowing mosquito nets, ceiling fans within the nets, and en suite bathrooms with twin basins and a shower. The private verandas overlook the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.

Facilities

The relaxed and airy lounge area and bar is perched right on the water’s edge and is a perfect place for lazy afternoons with a good book or tasty cocktail. Alternatively laze around the lodge swimming pool while catching a tan.

Next to the swimming pool is a games room overlooking the sea, complete with a pool table, darts and table tennis. Retreat to the peaceful upstairs sitting area with it’s magical views over the bay. Visit the small boutique for something to remember Manda Bay by.

Dining

You can enjoy delicious meals and refreshing drinks in the central dining area, furnished with locally crafted Lamu furniture and overlooking the calming Indian Ocean.

Cuisine at Manda Bay has a marine flavour, featuring freshly caught tuna, mangrove crab and prawns. Meal times are designed to fit into your holiday and can take place in the casual dining area, or on the Ocean’s edge.

Manda Bay

Manda was definitely my favourite, though I have to say that I am a beach lover :) The lodging was breathtaking. The activities and the sundowners were SO much fun. We got an astronomy lesson, went on a fishing trip, ate fresh sashimi that the boys caught during the day, went jetskiing, took out this amazing old wood boat for the day, went for a fly around the island and just really had so much fun.The food was great. There was plenty of time for relaxation. I would go back there in a second. In designing Manda, it seems they thought of everything. Really a beautiful place.
