Governors’ Camp Collection has been a pioneer in safaris for more than 40 years. When the group’s flagship, eponymous camp flapped back its canvas in the Masai Mara in 1972, it was Africa’s first luxury permanent tented camp. The idea grew out of the desire to offer guests the magical experience of staying in the bush, under canvas – an experience that had theretofore been available only to the ultra-wealthy.
Keeping the best traditions of the early days of safari, Governors’ gives guests the opportunity to live the authentic safari experience of being fully immersed in the wild. Establishing their properties in the heart of the best wildlife viewing areas of Kenya and Rwanda, and working closely with local communities, the camps offer unforgettable safari experiences that introduce travellers to the magnificent wildlife, unspoiled scenery and colourful people of these countries.
Being at the forefront of sustainable eco-tourism, Governors’ recognises that to conserve these unique wild areas of Africa, the local communities must benefit from tourism. Which is why the group works closely with the local people to help improve their standards of living, education and healthcare, while also seeking sustainable and innovative ways to help them meet their energy needs.
With this focus on conservation as well as more than four decades of safari industry experience, guests staying at any one of the Governors’ Camp Collection sites will be treated to the thrilling pleasures of some of the world’s most magnificent wildlife spectacles while helping to preserve the environment.
Since its inception in 1972, the group has grown to include four luxury camps, one farmhouse and a collection of cottages in Kenya, as well as a lodge on the slopes of the Virunga Volcanoes in Rwanda. Most of all, though, Governors’ is proud to offer travellers the chance to unwind and tune into the rhythms of the African bush at some of the top hotels in the world.
