Go on your own personal migration across Kenya, with each step of the way being an opportunity for extraordinary game viewing under expert guidance, usually by Masaai or Samburu rangers. Spotting big game on the outskirts of Nairobi, the third biggest city on the continent and the only one in the world with a reserve quite like this, is the first taste of a week’s worth of East African adventure.
After sleeping under canvas at Nairobi Tented Camp, fly south-east to Mount Kilimanjaro and the great elephant herds of Amboseli National Park, to the true African style of spacious tents at Tortilis Camp. Sleep the sleep of the enchanted after a day’s game viewing and a relaxing massage, followed by a fine meal. Sad to leave but excited to move on, you head into the dry Northern Frontier District, to the land of the enigmatic Samburu, where the Elephant Bedroom is your home. You will be forgiven for thinking you have packed up all your creature comforts and gone back into the past, so remote and unspoilt is this spectacular location.
Your last stop is Ilkeliani Camp in the Masai Mara, nestled in riverine forest. This is the home of vast herds of plains game, followed always by hungry predators. And for you, delicious food, campfires by night and stargazing to end off perfect days.
