Kenya’s Immersive Samburu, Lewa & Mara
From the moment your feet touch the ground at the Samburu airstrip (after a welcome night in Nairobi), you are immersed in the abundance of wildlife around you. Saruni Samburu curls into the rocky hills of Kenya’s wild north and is the only lodge in Kalama Conservancy, on the border of Samburu National Reserve, with 200 000 acres of unspoilt wilderness for you to explore. Perched on the edge of a crag, Saruni Samburu lodge has spectacular views over the Northern Frontier District and Mount Kenya from its decks and two infinity pools. And, for a little extra relaxation, there is the tranquil Wellbeing Space that offers massages with a view – even from the spa, you can watch the famous Samburu elephant, leopard, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx and Grevy’s zebra gather to drink at the nearby waterholes.
From the rugged ridges of Samburu, your journey takes you south to the lush, wildlife-rich expanse of Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. A scenic flight brings you to the foothills of Mount Kenya, where Sirikoi Lodge awaits—an elegant retreat tucked into the heart of one of Kenya's most successful conservation areas.
From Lewa to the Masai Mara – these are your playgrounds for 10 days. The vast purity of the Samburu landscape is a fascinating counterpoint to the grasslands of Lewa and then the lush greenery of the forest around Saruni Mara lodge and each has their own allure. Saruni Mara is tucked away in a secluded valley in Mara North Conservancy, a 74 000 acre concession bordering the Mara. Here, you can encounter the huge variety of game virtually uninterrupted by other vehicles in the immense quietness and emptiness of this secret corner of the reserve.
This 10-day African journey is ideal for travellers who want to get off the beaten path and see a special part of African accessible to a privileged few…
When you book this safari Go2Africa will donate $5 to the Wildlife Tourism College of Maasai Mara to support the annual sponsorship of two students.
Saruni Samburu was an amazing lodge. Unfortunately, the terrain was difficult for me to navigate. I had a very hard time getting around. We were scheduled for Villa 6A, but there was no way I was going to be able to get there (that’s as far as you can get from the main area; very difficult for anyone with mobility issues). So, Nicole (the lodge manager) very kindly switched us to Villa 2 and then the next day let us move to the family villa. There, they were able to come pick me up in the jeep right in front of the villa. Also, they brought the massage bed to the villa because I wasn’t able to get to the wellness building. Begin your safari at Saruni Samburu, the only lodge set in the scenic mountains of the Kalama Conservancy adjoining the Saruni National Reserve. This means you can experience a safari away from the crowds. Settle into your villa, which boasts 360-degree views of the dramatic northern Kenyan landscape. On your exploring days, you will enjoy game drives into Samburu National Reserve to seek the endemic ‘Special 5’ of Samburu: reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and the peculiar long-necked gerenuk, all rare species that occur only in this part of the country. Samburu warriors are your guides. They are passionate about their land and their culture, and teach you about their fascinating customs and traditions, and about their ancient knowledge of the animals.
Look for the larger game, too, elephant, lion and leopard, and have a picnic lunch before heading back to the lodge to relax for the afternoon. There are the swimming pools and the spa, or perhaps a nap in the shade of your deck. Go on a walk to the caves, walls adorned with rock paintings, or to Ololokwe, the Samburu’s sacred mountain. Sundowners and dinner round off a day of memory-making. You can take an evening game drive in Kalama Conservancy, ending with a dinner under the stars in the wilderness, and a night drive back to the lodge. The Samburu warriors will dance on your last evening, lit by primal fire and candles.

Nicole went way out of her way to accommodate my disability and I really appreciate it. Hussen was our main waiter and Jimmy was our driver/guide. Both were very helpful and kind. Even with my mobility issues, I’m glad we got to stay at Saruni Samburu Lodge.
Sirikoi is a little paradise, a rare lodge that works perfectly for family's travelling together or honeymoon couples. The wildlife here is exceptional as are the staff, managers and guides. Book a stay of 3 nights or more, this is going to be one of your safari highlights!
The next part of your journey takes you to Sirikoi Lodge, set within the renowned Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. While Saruni Samburu offered elevated views across dramatic terrain, Sirikoi brings you closer to the earth—nestled into the natural landscape, where you’re within the rhythm of the surrounding habitat.
Beyond exceptional game viewing—Lewa is home to over 10% of Kenya's remaining black rhino population—there's much to explore. Take a guided hike or quad bike adventure through the nearby Ngare Ndare Forest, home to hidden waterfalls fed by Mount Kenya and a 400-metre-long canopy walkway suspended in the treetops.
Back at camp, unwind with in-room massages, horse riding, and guided bush walks. Meals are a highlight, crafted from fresh organic ingredients grown in Sirikoi's extensive kitchen garden. Your luxury tent is positioned on a raised platform with a spacious, furnished deck that overlooks the open grasslands, where wildlife often grazes during the day. Before sundowners, enjoy a long soak in your Victorian ‘tub with a view'—a chilled glass bubbly in hand. As evening falls, a cosy fireplace awaits—perfect for a quiet glass of wine or a warm cup of tea before bed.

Lewa Wildernesses is stunning and I wish I had stayed 3 nights there also. That and the Saruni Mara are definitely my favorite. However, seeing and understanding Samburu and the effect of climate change and drought on the people and animals was extremely important to me. I am figuring out how I can get more involved with getting accessible water.
All of the camps were absolutely amazing and the staff at all go above and beyond! I met some people I will forever be friends with after sharing this experience with them. Traveling alone is a completely different experience and I formed bonds with people quickly and deeply.
Early morning and time to bid a fond farewell to Samburu before your flight to Saruni Mara, tucked away in a secluded valley in Mara North Conservancy on the Masai Mara. Without skipping a beat you are off the plane and on a game-viewing vehicle, this time guided by a Maasai warrior, who is passionate and knowledgeable about his ancestral lands. With his guidance, you will not only see the big names but also the little stories: birds’ mating dances, families of perky warthogs and wily hyenas.
Excellent year-round game viewing
Private Masai Mara conservancy
Perfect for the Wildebeest Migration season
Day and night game drives as well as walking safaris
Environmentally and community focused, with Maasai cultural experiences
One of only 10 lodges in 74 000 acres of land
Fully Inclusive (All Meals, Selected Beverages)

The Saruni Samburu and Mara combination is definitely one of my personal favourites as it combines two incredible locations in Kenya, and two really amazing properties. Add Sirikoi into the mix and you have a superbly well-rounded safari! The properties have phenomenal locations and views, but the facilities are great, the staff and the service is top notch and what stands out for me at the Saruni camps is the amazing interaction you get with the local Kenya people. And to top it all off, the wildlife experience is truly spectacular! I believe that this package would be amazing for anyone looking for a great all rounded Kenya adventure.
