Saruni Mara
Saruni Mara is located in a private conservancy bordering the Masai Mara National Reserve and is an ideal base from which to witness the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra through the region. Based on a close partnership with the local community and built in a hidden valley to exacting environmental standards, Saruni Mara is far removed from everyday life and designed to blend in with its dramatic surroundings.
This intimate lodge offers many opportunities to view African animals up close and is perfect for a romantic or adventurous honeymooners. Get up early in the mornings to go on guided game drives to exclusive, sole-use areas or join Maasai warriors on escorted bush walks and explore the nearby hills on foot. At the end of the day, relax in the Maasai Wellbeing Space, a private treatment spa hidden in the valley’s olive tree and cedar forest.
Make a Positive Impact Through TravelSaruni believes in the ethical creation of wealth. This is the way forward for Africa, and for conservation: the protection of wildlife and nature based on the distribution of income and jobs to its stakeholders. This is why they are proud to be among the founding members of Mara North Conservancy (MNC) and to be part of Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) – two leading community-run conservation organizations in Kenya, which demonstrate the vital connection between communities, conservation and wildlife, a relationship fueled by tourism. |

The private villa, Nyati House, is a beautiful and private wilderness home. It features two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a lounge and dining room as well as a kitchen and a large veranda. It's the ideal safari home away from home and is booked on an exclusive-use basis. It's perfect for travelling families or friends who want to experience the Masai Mara on their own schedule.
Saruni Mara also has a Family Villa consisting of two en suite bedrooms, a large lounge, dining area and a veranda that overlooks the Masai Mara.
There is also a Family Cottage, which though only slightly smaller overall, offers a beautiful and comfortable sanctuary for a family with 2 children.
With a stylishly decorated en suite bedroom, leading out onto the open veranda, the Honeymoon cottage boasts beautiful views over the secluded valley and out onto the Mara plains in the distance.
Perched on a hill with sweeping views over the Masai Mara plains, the cottages are spacious and beautifully appointed, each with a bedroom, en-suite bathroom, and a large front deck perfect for daytime relaxation or stargazing at night. Designed with a traditional touch, the cottages are comfortable retreats that offer pure immersion in the surrounding natural landscape.
Situated in a private cottage in the valley’s olive and cedar forest, the Maasai Wellbeing Space is a well-appointed spa offering a combination of Western and local Maasai treatments. The Saruni library, with its private collection of rare African books, offers a perfect setting to read, think and reminisce.

Dining the African way is part of the Saruni experience: meals contain locally produced, organic products and the lodge chefs are always creating new and delicious combinations.
The Kuro House is the local meeting place where guests can share the day’s stories and experiences after drinks around the fireplace.
Here, at a long dining table, a special dinner is served every evening but for a dining experience that is closer to the wild, you can enjoy an àl fresco bush dinner at a quiet spot under the stars while romantics will appreciate the opportunity to have a candlelit meal for two on a private veranda.
Great option for a family learning holiday - learn first hand about bush skills, how to use a bow and arrow, tend to goats and learn all about the Masai culture.

Lewa Wildernesses is stunning and I wish I had stayed 3 nights there also. That and the Saruni Mara are definitely my favorite. However, seeing and understanding Samburu and the effect of climate change and drought on the people and animals was extremely important to me. I am figuring out how I can get more involved with getting accessible water.
All of the camps were absolutely amazing and the staff at all go above and beyond! I met some people I will forever be friends with after sharing this experience with them. Traveling alone is a completely different experience and I formed bonds with people quickly and deeply.
‘We loved all three places that we stayed and the staff made us feel so welcome and comfortable. We saw all of the animals in both places and the guides were incredible. The food was spectacular. The staff were so welcoming and the drivers and trackers were excellent.’
Saruni Mara is a lodge in very nice settings in the green hills bordering the plain and the number of animals we saw was amazing.
We saw every animal imagineable during our stay at Saruni Mara.
The trip to Kenya was beyond amazing and all three lodges surpassed our initial expectations we had for them. Even though they are all Saruni lodges, they each gave us a completely different experience. The really only compliant we could possibly have is that Rick and I weren’t that great on getting Isabelle covered with bug repellant the first night in Samburu and she was eaten by them but James got us some bug repellant for her that worked much better than what we had with us that we used for the rest of the trip.
The tracker/guides we had were fabulous with Isabelle and catered to her needs which in return made our lifes much easier ;-). The staff at all three lodges were fabulous, making sure our needs (primarly Isabelle’s needs) were met, food was great and there isn’t anything negative we can say about the trip at all.
We have already decided that we will be making a trip back to Africa a yearly vacation after experiencing this last trip.
