12-Day Sustainable South Africa Safari, Nature & City Experience
Per Person Sharing
12 days
This 12-day journey weaves together some of South Africa's most iconic destinations – Cape Town, Kruger, the Panorama Route – as well as a hidden gem and local favourite, the Wild Coast. Designed with sustainability in mind, this itinerary builds a stronger connection between South Africa's people, wildlife, and natural habitats through community and conservation programmes supported simply by booking this trip.
Begin in Cape Town, a city where nature, culture, cuisine, and history intertwine for a unique city escape. Explore Table Mountain, coastal drives, vineyards, and vibrant neighbourhoods before heading to a private reserve bordering Kruger National Park for Big 5 game drives and a taste of life on safari. Continue along the scenic Panorama Route, marvelling at canyons, waterfalls, and sweeping vistas. Finally, retreat to the remote Wild Coast, where the Indian Ocean meets untouched coastline, and local communities thrive beside protected wilderness.
This trip beautifully balances luxury, romance, adventure, and impact and so would work perfectly for couples. With upgrades available for families, it also works well as a meaningful shared holiday. Best enjoyed year-round, the route offers varied ecosystems, mild climates, and unforgettable experiences—each stay playing a part in supporting South Africa's ecological and cultural future.
On arrival at Cape Town International Airport, you'll be met by your driver for a private road transfer to The Tree House Boutique Hotel, tucked into the popular Green Point suburb with sweeping views of the city and ocean.
The next day brings a special outing into the Cape Winelands. Travel in an electric car through rolling vineyards to visit pioneering farms with a strong focus on sustainability. Discover the fascinating role of bees, hand-pick fresh produce, and enjoy wine tastings alongside seasonal, farm-to-table menus that capture the essence of the region.
The rest of your time in Cape Town is yours to explore at leisure. Whether it's the iconic Table Mountain, the historic stories of Robben Island, or the golden sands of Camps Bay and Clifton beaches, the city offers endless variety. Coastal drives, art-filled neighbourhoods, and lively restaurants round out your stay in South Africa's much-loved “Mother City.”
Bed & Breakfast
The accommodation was great. The staff were friendly and the guides were excellent, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about explaining everything that was going on.
After breakfast at The Tree House Boutique Hotel, soak in your last views of city and sea before transferring to Cape Town International Airport. A flight takes you into Big Five country, landing at Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. From here, a driver will escort you to your safari home for the next three nights: Dulini River Lodge.
Tucked beneath a canopy of ancient riverine trees and overlooking the Sand River, Dulini River Lodge sits in the heart of the game-rich Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve. Days here are filled with extraordinary wildlife encounters on early morning and late afternoon game drives, bringing you close to the Big Five, and on guided walking safaris, revealing the finer details of the bush. For photography enthusiasts, specialist photographic walks add an extra layer to the experience. Between adventures, retreat to the lodge's serene setting and watch wildlife drift by the river from your private deck.

Because of a cancellation our room at Olivers was upgraded. Again friendly, clean, luxury was the name of the game. We relaxed in a way unknown on the rest of the holiday. Quiet beauty, with a porch on the edge of the garden. It seemed like no one else was there. Yet there were no empty tables at dinner. Thank you Cindy for polishing my boots scuffed terribly from being in the bush.
After your final morning game drive and breakfast at Dulini River Lodge, your driver will collect you for a scenic transfer to Oliver's Restaurant and Lodge near White River, perfectly positioned on the Panorama Route.
The afternoon is yours to enjoy at your own pace: you might choose a short excursion to some of the region's famous natural wonders—such as the dramatic Blyde River Canyon or the striking Bourke's Luck Potholes—or simply relax at the lodge. With options for golf, spa treatments, or lingering over Oliver's excellent cuisine, it's the ideal place to slow down before continuing your journey.

I’ve visited many remote & special places, yet the ‘Wild Coast’ of South Africa remains one of my favourite – quiet & remote, exceptional marine life, waterfalls flowing into the ocean and a sense of place knowing you are in sacred tribal land, and your travel has a positive impact.
After an exquisite breakfast spread at Oliver's, return to Kruger Mpumalanga Airport for your flight to Durban. A short transfer brings you to Virginia Airport, where a light aircraft will carry you directly to the Wild Coast's GweGwe Beach Lodge – your next destination for the remaining four nights.
Tucked within Mkambati Nature Reserve, GweGwe sits on a dramatic stretch of coastline overlooking the Indian Ocean, warmed by the Agulhas Current. From your room you'll look out onto wild surf beloved by dolphins, while behind you stretch indigenous Cape coastal forests, cascading waterfalls, hidden sandy coves, and grassland plains where antelope and zebra graze. A sheltered bay just steps away provides the perfect spot for a relaxed beach day, with calm waters ideal for swimming and snorkelling.
During your stay, enjoy a wide range of activities: hiking, cycling, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, or simply unwinding with a spa treatment. Set within a marine protected area recognised as one of the world's great biodiversity hotspots, GweGwe offers both adventure and tranquillity. Importantly, your stay directly supports conservation and local community initiatives, ensuring your visit leaves a positive impact on this extraordinary coastline.

Savour your last morning on the Wild Coast, watching the waves roll in from the Indian Ocean one last time. After breakfast, you'll be transferred to the nearby airstrip for your flight back to Virginia Airport. From here, connect to Durban's King Shaka International and onward to Johannesburg's O.R. Tambo International Airport, where your South African journey concludes and your onward travels begin.

I highly recommend this journey, combining city, safari, and ocean experiences for an enriching and seamless South African experience.
