Crater, Serengeti & Mara
Combining Kenya's Masai Mara with Tanzania's Serengeti already promises a rewarding safari – when the Ngorongoro Crater is added to the mix, you have one of the most wildlife-intense experiences in Africa. In the company of expert guides, you will enjoy game drives, walks and horseback safaris as you search for the Big 5 and massed herds of migrating wildebeest plus their ever-present predators. Even if you visit out of Migration season, such is the wealth of wildlife on this tour that you are still assured of great game viewing at all the destinations.
A classic fly-in safari comprising outstanding accommodation, this 10-day tour opens with the old-world charm of a Tanzania coffee estate and a grand manor house set on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater. In addition, you will find plenty of pleasant extras at these accommodations such as a massage service, childminders for families, private dining, Wi-Fi Internet reception and swimming pools.

The accommodations at the Manor were splendid. It felt like we were English royalty with all the grandeur. Altus(manager), Baraka(butler) and Andrew (game drives) made our stay perfect – including a surprise romantic dinner!

One really sees how remote Serengeti Migration Camp is while landing on a strip of dirt in the middle of absolutely nowhere! It was an incredible experience to see this part of Africa. Each room of Serengeti Migration Camp is an independent elevated lodge with canvas sides and a wrap-around porch. Our lodge was located right along the Grumeti River where 80 hippos live. It is a short flight this morning to Serengeti National Park and your accommodation for the next three nights – Serengeti Migration Camp. As well as game drives, you can also look forward to fascinating nature walks with your guide, and have the option of a hot-air balloon safari over the Serengeti savannah. Accommodation is in the form of large tented suites with private bathrooms and elevated viewing decks.

We could hear the hippos grunting during the night as they grazed right outside our room! The rooms were once again complete luxury. We loved every aspect of them! Our day exploring the Serengeti was magnificent! We felt like true explorers. Our guide, Alex, and our fellow travelers' guide Moses kept in contact with one another as we scanned the area looking for animals. We saw so many different types of animals, it was hard to keep track! We came across a pride of 26 lions, which was phenomenal. Alex asked what else we'd like to see. We told him we'd love to see a leopard and a cheetah. I didn't have much hope, but Alex and Moses came through! We saw one of each. Wow! That night we had a beautiful dinner by the river with lanterns hanging from the trees. There was a guard watching for hippos while we ate. It was exciting and beautiful at the same time. The next morning Alex took us for a walk along the river to see the hippos. He was very informative as he educated us about the hippos and other animals. We loved how he taught us about the habits of animals during our time with him.
Your journey to Kenya involves a road transfer and short flight but it is not long before you are checking into Sand River Masai Mara for three nights. As well-placed for the Wildebeest Migration as your previous camp, Sand River Masai Mara also offers balloon safaris as well as game drives and walks, and guests will be delighted to find at least one of their meals served away from camp in an exciting safari setting.
Accommodation is raised off the ground and enjoys river views; a private butler is on hand to ensure everything runs smoothly. Complete with swimming pool, library, Wi-Fi access and a laundry service, Sand River Masai Mara sits in a quieter area of the Masai Mara National Reserve and is perfect for travellers who want all the drama of the Mara but without the Migration-season crowds.
