Day to day
Arrive in Cape Town – affectionately known as ‘The Mother City’ by the locals – and pick up your rental car at the airport. Drive into the city and on to Welgelegen House, a gracious Victorian home located in the leafy city neighbourhood of Gardens at the foot of Table Mountain.
The car rental allows you to venture out at your own pace to explore the city and its surroundings. It is only a short drive to the beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton, not to mention the V&A Waterfront, or you can head further afield to the natural delights of Cape Point, the Cape Winelands and Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens.
The convenience of Welgelegen House means you can come back after a busy day, relax and get ready for a night out on the town: the city is full of fantastic restaurants and upscale bars.
Say goodbye to Cape Town and return your rental car to the airport before you catch a flight to Hoedspruit. After being picked up, you are transferred to the game-rich Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve and your accommodation: Arathusa Safari Lodge, a luxurious safari camp located in the northern part of this legendary reserve.
This section of the Sabi Sands is well known for its rich diversity of animal and birdlife, and boasts exceptional leopard and buffalo sightings. You explore the reserve on morning, late afternoon and early evening game drives led by knowledgeable trackers and guides who will share the secrets of the bush with you.
For a truly exhilarating experience, head out on a guided walk after your mid-morning breakfast to get a different perspective of the Sabi Sands ecosystem. Relax in the infinity swimming pool and watch the resident hippo pod in the large waterhole below.
Transfer from the Sabi Sands to Hoedspruit airport to catch your flight to Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport. On arrival, you will be transferred by your driver to The Peech Hotel, located in the stylish and quirky neighbourhood of Melrose.
Set in a peaceful garden in the heart of energetic Johannesburg, this boutique hotel is a relaxing city-centre retreat. The mature garden is home to a quiet pool, and inside The Peech Hotel you’ll find cottage-esque rooms, decorated with rich African tones.
Be transferred back to the airport after a wonderful night’s sleep for your scheduled flight to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Take a private transfer to The Victoria Falls Hotel, the iconic, colonial-style hotel located close enough to ‘The Smoke that Thunders’ for you to have a drink in its grounds and feel the falling spray from the waterfall itself when it is in full flood.
The Victoria Falls Hotel’s prime location on the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls means that you can simply walk to the Victoria Falls National Park and into the rainforest that surrounds the thundering waterfall.
The views are great and the bird watching is excellent all along the Zambezi River. It also means that you are well-placed to spend today doing any of the exciting adventure activities available in the area: you could bungee jump off the Victoria Falls Bridge, go white-water rafting down the Zambezi River, take a scenic flight over the Falls, enjoy a dip in Devil’s Pool, or amble along on an elephant-back safari to name a few.
Return to Victoria Falls Airport via a private transfer and catch a scheduled flight back to South Africa. Your arrival in Johannesburg is the end of a wonderful safari adventure.
