A modern, clean-lined tented camp with a traditional African feel, Mara Mara Tented Lodge has one of the Serengeti’s most coveted locations. Just a short drive takes you from the serenity of camp to the exciting drama of the annual Wildebeest Migration’s most anticipated chapter: the river crossings. Arriving around June – but sometimes sooner or later, depending on regional rainfall - the wildebeest herds have to cross the rivers in order to reach the Masai Mara on the other side; giant crocodiles have been waiting patiently and the result is nature at its most heart-stopping.
The lodge lies under trees and has romantic river views. Each of the 15 tents has an en suite bathroom with a flush toilet, basin and shower, and you can choose between king-sized or twin beds. The camp uses solar power and has a back-up generator so there is always lighting in your tent.
Game drives are the focus at Mara Mara Tented Lodge. You head out on early morning and late afternoon drives, led by a sharp-eyed and knowledgeable local guide, in search of the Serengeti’s wildlife. The Wildebeest Migration is the headline event for several months of the year but, regardless of when you travel, this corner of the Serengeti delivers all through the year. It is Big 5 country – lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo – and home to a huge concentration of plains animals such as zebra and giraffe. The bird watching is excellent and there are always good chances to see rare animals like cheetah and wild dog. Back at camp you have the chance to relax around the swimming pool and catch up with home care of the camp’s Wi-Fi Internet access.
