Both Rovos and the Castello Di Monte were fabulous
From Johannesburg your driver will take you to Pretoria to board the stately Rovos Rail train to Victoria Falls. For three nights, you will be cocooned in what is arguably the world’s most luxurious rail service and pass through magnificent scenery on your way north through Zimbabwe.
Your deluxe suite has an en suite bathroom with a private shower and picture windows. Spend your days enjoying short excursions at various stops along the way, relaxing with an iced drink in the open-air car, catching up on your napping or reading, or just wiling away the hours over a board game or two.
The hotel was great, especially sitting on the patio seeing the falls splash in the distance.
If you are lucky enough to be visiting when the Falls are in full flood, you will immediately understand why they are traditionally known as Mosi-au-Tunya or ‘the Smoke that Thunders’. The spray and noise of thousands of gallons of water per second plunging down a sheer rock face nearly two kilometres wide is truly staggering. Your accommodation for two nights is the Victoria Falls Hotel on the Zimbabwean side of this natural wonder.
The area is known as Africa’s adventure capital for the wide variety of exciting activities on offer. Take to the air in a microlight, tackle the Zambezi River’s white waters and hold your breath as you bungee jump. In the evenings, a sunset cruise is the only way to toast the day before heading to dinner.

I can’t begin to express how excited and impressed we were when we learned that Angama Mara had a photo studio and professionals on staff to offer photographic services, support and expertise. The reason: having good images of our trip to share with our family & friends and to document our East Africa travel experiences was important to us. We have to believe most visitors to Angama Mara feel similarly.
The fact that Angama Mara recognizes this and provides for it is one of the many customer-centric benefits the property offers and, in our minds, truly makes Angama Mara stand out.

My husband and I spent several hours in the Angama Mara photo studio with Andrew and Robert. Andrew Andrawes, in particular, was exceedingly generous with his time, patiently going through our photos with us to edit and improve them. (Note: We are recreational, novice photographers in every possible way, so improving our photos took time!). After we departed Angama Mara, we emailed Andrew to inquire about a recommendation for photo editing services at home so we could edit some additional photos from our trip. Andrew graciously offered to do the editing for us, which was above and beyond our expectations.
We are so happy to now have a set of good photos that capture our memories from our time in East Africa. No doubt, we will enjoy them for many years to come.
